ABOUT BIOSPHERE ECO-CITIES

A Biosphere Eco-City (BEC) refers to the urban core and the surrounding countryside of a city where people and organizations cooperate for sustainability. The BEC approach uses simple Themes and Tools to engage people and develop a culture of sustainability. BEC’s 10 Tools of Sustainability – Transportation, Energy, Design, Habitat, Food, Natural Capital, Waste, Health, Recreation, and Sense of Place – represent all areas of direct action for sustainability. Some of them relate to the urban tree tour..

BECC is a national charity that supports development of BECs. Currently there are five BEC initiatives in Canada – Ottawa, Toronto, Brampton, Edmonton, and Vancouver. For more information on the program visit BioEcoCity.org.
