Established in 1926, RHS offers workshops and speaker series on a wide variety of topics. Membership is open to anyone interested in gardening, horticulture, and environmental stewardship.

The Roselands Horticultural Society is seeking a Treasurer. This position is a volunteer position.

Summary

The Treasurer is responsible for overseeing the Society’s financial activities and business affairs. In particular, the Treasurer manages the day-to-day financial affairs of the Society and reports on those affairs to the Executive Board.

Responsibilities

  • The Treasurer works, in all aspects, as a member of a team and will receive support from the Executive Board.
  • Assist in preparation of annual budget and present to Executive Board for review and approval.
  • Prepare and remit all required documents for OHA and OMAFRA.
  • Prepare and present Treasurer's Report at the Society's AGM.
  • Prepare the annual financial information to be sent to the Financial Reviewers prior to the AGM.
  • Prepare a monthly Bank Reconciliation.
  • Maintain accurate and reconciled banking records.
  • Receive, record and deposit all Society incoming monies.
  • Receive, record and remit payment for all Society expenditures.
  • Maintain an up-to-date database of all financial transactions to corroborate reports.
  • Maintain an off-site backup of all financial records and ensure regular electronic backups take place.
  • Monitor any large variances in expenses and income and inform the Executive Board on a timely basis.
  • Monitor the budget to compare actual vs budget.
  • Provide oversight and due diligence and report any concerns to the Executive Board.

Skills & Experience

  • Appreciation for horticulture and gardening.
  • Enthusiasm for engaging people, teamwork and sharing knowledge.
  • Previous involvement in a leadership role in a volunteer organization.
  • Has working knowledge of accounting principles.
  • Superior communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Understands or willing to learn governance policies and best practices.
  • An ability to work collaboratively and effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Demonstrates commitment to the principles of equity, inclusion and diversity in a collaborative environment.
