ABOUT BIOSPHERE ECO-CITIES
A Biosphere Eco-City (BEC) is an urban-centred region where people and organizations cooperate for sustainability. The BEC approach uses simple Themes and Tools to engage people and develop a culture of sustainability. BEC’s 10 Tools of Sustainability – Transportation, Energy, Design, Habitat, Food, Natural Capital, Waste, Health, Recreation, and Sense of Place – represent all areas of direct action for sustainability. They serve as a framework for the database. Five cities are participating in BEC initiatives – Ottawa, Toronto, Brampton, Edmonton, and Vancouver. They are coordinated by a national charity, Biosphere Eco-Cities Canada. For more information on the program visit https://BioEcoCity.org. A time commitment of 3-4 hours per week is requested.
