Full-Time Summer Camp Facilitator

Location: Prince Edward County, Ontario
Housing: We have subsidized on-farm housing available for staff. Private rooms are available at below-market rates, with shared kitchen and bathroom facilities. Utlities are included, along with internet, laundry access, and a communal gathering space. No prior farming or camp experience required - we'll provide all the training you need!

About Our Farm Camp

Paper Kite Farm's summer camp program provides children ages 5-12 with immersive agricultural and outdoor education experiences. Through hands-on activities, creative projects, and guided exploration, campers learn about sustainable farming, food systems, and natural ecosystems while developing confidence and connection to the land. Our program emphasizes Asian culinary traditions and multicultural approaches to agriculture, making our camp unique in Prince Edward County.

Professional Development Opportunity

We're offering Forest and Nature School Practitioner certification (a $1,950 value) for counselors who can attend training April 11-15, 2025. This nationally recognized certification will enhance your teaching credentials and provide valuable skills for outdoor education.

Position Overview

We're seeking enthusiastic individuals with a background in education to help lead our summer farm camp program. This position offers hands-on experience in outdoor education, curriculum development, and nature-based learning.

Program Components

Our campers participate in various activities including:

  • Hands-on gardening and harvest activities
  • Basic cooking and food preparation
  • Animal care and responsible farming practices
  • Nature exploration in our woodlot
  • Natural art and craft projects
  • Environmental education activities
  • Traditional agricultural practices
  • Farm-to-table connections

Daily Responsibilities

  • Supervise and ensure safety of up to 12 children ages 5-12
  • Lead and assist with daily camp activities
  • Implement age-appropriate educational programming
  • Maintain daily schedule and activity flow
  • Assist with snack and lunch supervision
  • Document daily activities and maintain communication with parents
  • Help with camp setup and cleanup

Qualifications

  • Completed Vulnerable Sector Check (must be obtained before start date)
  • Enthusiasm for working with children
  • Physical ability to lead outdoor activities
  • Strong communication skills

Assets

  • Current enrollment in or recent graduation from an Education program
  • First Aid and CPR certification

Schedule & Compensation

  • Season runs for 8 weeks starting from July 7 - August 29, 2025
  • Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM
  • $22-26/hour based on experience and education
  • Lunch and paid lunch break
  • Weekly vegetable share
  • Forest and Nature School Practitioner certification opportunity ($1,950 value)

Work Environment

You'll be working primarily outdoors in various weather conditions, moving between our garden spaces, woodlot, and indoor facilities. Our farm provides a unique learning environment that combines agricultural education with natural exploration. You'll be supported by our experienced farm team and receive ongoing mentorship in outdoor education techniques.
