Position: National Sustainability Lead – Finance & Insurance
Organization: Ducks Unlimited Canada

Position Details: Full-time, Permanent, New Position
Salary Range: $97,600 - $121,900 based on a 35-hour work week. Salary for this position will be commensurate with the successful applicant’s education and/or experience as it relates to the position.
Location: Remote/hybrid in Canada

What You Will Do

Reporting to the National Manager of Sustainability, the National Sustainability Lead – Finance & Insurance (NSL) will provide strategic and technical leadership in the Finance & Insurance sector. The NSL will work to position DUC as a solution provider to industries seeking to achieve sustainability outcomes that result in measurable environment benefits.

Essential to this position is the ability to build key strategic partnerships with Finance and Insurance sector leaders to identify and advance viable nature-based solutions to meet core industry ESG priorities that help achieve DUC’s mission through conservation impact at scale. The NSL will collaborate with other DUC Business Units to ensure a sustainable funding stream for both the needed sustainability work and to position DUC as the ENGO of choice for the Finance & Insurance sector.

Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Identify priority partnerships with senior leaders in industry, non-governmental organizations, government, industry associations, and Indigenous governments
  • Lead in the development of significant new business opportunities and funding sources for DUC in the delivery of Nature Based Solutions in the support of industry partners environmental goals
  • Develop relationships with internal stakeholders to ensure that sustainability initiatives are incorporated into DUC business areas.
  • Cultivate deep expertise in trends in ESG generally in addition to specific to sector expertise to effectively evaluate partner ESG needs relative to DUCs capacities and capacities
  • Develop and lead sector specific strategies to ensure DUC’s work has relevance, breadth, and standing in the larger sustainability work ongoing in Canada and internationally
  • Make independent decisions based on analysis, experience and context, foreseeing risk and proactively seeking advice as needed
  • Identify and act on opportunities to profile and promote DUC as a solutions provider though industry associations and develop deep understanding and expertise of industry needs and limitations.
  • Support the development and management of a budget
  • Develop reporting in support of overall revenue development

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience in Sustainable Development with focus on Finance & Insurance or related field.
  • University degree in business, commerce or marketing.
  • Education or knowledge in science and/or natural resources is an asset.
  • Demonstrated understanding of priority industry's key Sustainability and ESG drivers and factors influencing industrial value chains
  • Experience with market-based conservation instruments in the areas of carbon, biodiversity and water
  • Past experience with TCFD and TNFD is considered an asset.
  • Entrepreneurial skills and ability to predict upcoming trends in industry/development sectors that may lead to new opportunities.
  • Strong negotiation and presentation skills.
  • Strong knowledge and experience in budget planning, reporting and project management.
  • Possesses a network of industry contacts and an understanding of industry value chains, and how each intersects with environmental sustainability.
  • Ability to work flexible hours in order to meet with external clients.
  • Must have the ability to travel across Canada.
