Environmental sustainability, Municipal climate action

Position: Communications Coordinator
Organization: Clean Air Partnership
Location: This position is eligible for a hybrid work model. Attendance at our Toronto office at Richmond & Spadina is mandatory on Mondays and Wednesdays. For exceptional candidates we will consider fully remote.

Headquartered in Toronto, Clean Air Partnership (CAP) was founded in the year 2000. CAP is a charitable environmental organization that works in partnership to implement climate action by reducing greenhouse gases and building healthy communities.

Reporting to the Operations Director, the primary responsibility of the Communications Coordinator is to is to deliver quality research reports and coordinate CAP’s outbound communications.

Position Overview:

COMMUNICATIONS (70%)

  • Together with senior staff, develop content for websites, blogs, newsletters and other media, and complement content with images, illustrations, and infographics.
  • Ensure all communications are engaging, professional, and consistently relay our brand, vision and key messages.
  • Develop and implement a public relations and social media strategy; build relationships with local media; write media releases and backgrounders.
  • Engage partners and participate in partner and community events to broaden our reach.
  • Promote and support, and participate in events and activities including forums, workshops, webinars, and the launch of special projects and reports.
  • Manage CAP’s social media
  • Work with senior staff to oversee CAP name change in 2025
  • Respond to information requests as required
  • Support our advocacy through joint submissions to the federal, provincial and municipal governments and relevant agencies
  • Present CAP research to numerous stakeholders

PROJECT DELIVERY (30%)

  • With the input of other CAP staff as the project may require, design and structure assigned research in order to deliver quality research reports
  • Develop visual materials (graphs, charts, maps, etc.) to illustrate and communicate research findings
  • Write research reports that are thorough, credible and readable
  • Develop and/or assist with research proposals as required
  • Coordinate as necessary with other CAP staff and consultants

Qualifications & Skills

  • Experience working with municipalities, climate organizations, or the building sector is an asset.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to translate complex technical and policy concepts into clear, actionable guidance for municipal audiences.
  • Strong research skills: collecting and analysing data, reviewing literature, formulating hypotheses, communicating findings
  • Strong organizational and project management skills: Managing multiple tasks and deadlines efficiently.
  • Social media savvy: Proficiency in using platforms like LinkedIn and Facebook to engage audiences and manage content.
  • Creative thinking and problem-solving: Developing innovative communication strategies and addressing challenges with resourcefulness.
  • Content creation: Producing a variety of content types, including press releases, blog posts, newsletters, and marketing materials.
  • Public relations and media relations: Experience building and maintaining relationships with media and managing PR efforts.

Requirements:

  • A post-secondary education in a related discipline or field. (e.g., sustainability, energy, environment, science communications, visual communications, design) or equivalent experience. A minimum of 2-3 years' experience with climate action, ideally in the municipal sector.
  • Strong graphic design, web design and data visualization skills. Videography skills an asset but not a requirement.
  • Solid understanding of climate change mitigation and adaptation at the municipal scale
  • Strong stakeholder engagement experience, communication skills (oral and written) and ability to translate and share technical information through plain language
  • Analytical, project management and time management skills and the ability to manage multiple, complex assignments with tight deadlines. Demonstrated skills problem solving with multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Experience with Wordpress, Loomly, Canva, Office365, InDesign
  • French proficiency an asset but not a requirement

Compensation:

  • Full Time.
  • $65,000 – $75,000
  • 15 days paid vacation
  • Half day Fridays through the summer
  • Complementary time off from December 24th – Jan 2nd
  • Health spending account after 6 months
  • Full pension offered after 6 months
  • CAP employs a graded pay scale with defined annual increases for merit and inflation for all positions.
