1. SSEA Field Technician
Main Responsibilities:
- Assist with field work (e.g., accurate data recording, use of technical equipment, record keeping etc.),
- use of field equipment
- identification and biology of local plants and animals, including benthic macroinvertebrates.
- Assist with the implementation of climate change and water quality monitoring programs including sampling streams, open water/inland lakes, groundwater, and benthic macroinvertebrates.
- Assist with field equipment maintenance and calibration, installation, downloading and removal of data loggers, sample collection, and biological sample analysis.
- Provide support for other SSEA programs and operations as needed, including assisting with field monitoring or habitat surveys (plants/wildlife)
- Assist in collecting and managing environmental monitoring data.

- Utilize computer tools and software such as Microsoft Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Outlook, and Google Drive, to assist with the compilation of data to support ongoing research in the Severn Sound watershed. This may include, managing field data and laboratory results, archiving and organizing photos, data entry, interpretation of data, report writing.
- Seek opportunities to create awareness for and promote SSEA programs and projects, including liaising with community groups and organizations.
- Assist with file management by archiving and organizing photos, entering and graphing data, and organizing records.
- Participate in weekly meetings and write a final report, summarizing project activities and accomplishments
- Perform other duties as required to support SSEA operations.
Qualifications and Key Skills:
- College and/or university education in natural resources management, environmental science, biology, ecology, or a related area of study
- Knowledge of the principles of field work, such as accurate data recording, use of technical equipment, and record keeping
- Ability to comfortably work on water and land in all types of weather
- Comfortable working in and around boats/water, ability to lift heavy objects, and endurance to stand and walk for long periods of time
- Ability to think creatively when problem solving
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Reliable and willing to work a flexible schedule (overtime, evenings/weekends)
- Excellent computer skills, including applications such as Zoom, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Ability to work with volunteers of all ages
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
- Valid Ontario Driver’s License (Class G)
- First Aid and CPR certification, WHMIS, Ontario Benthic Biomonitoring Network (OBBN) certification, and Canadian Pleasure Craft Operators Licence along with boat driving experience considered assets
- Knowledge of problem invasive species in the Severn Sound watershed, including identification of plant, fish, invertebrate and pathogenic invasive species considered an asset
2. General Field Technician
Main Responsibilities:
- Assist with identification and biology of local plants and animals
- Assist with field work (e.g., accurate data recording, use of technical equipment, record keeping etc.)
- Support delivery of SSEA community engagement programs such as Citizen Science, to a variety of age groups includes providing training on proper field techniques
- Assist with the development, design and circulation of clear and compelling communication materials (fact sheets, website and social media content, annual reports, presentations, articles, newsletters, media releases, etc.)
- Assist with content development and attend/represent the SSEA at community events, stewardship initiatives, and/or training/educational opportunities
- Seek opportunities to create awareness for and promote SSEA programs and projects
- Assist with volunteer recruitment and facilitating meetings, events and training sessions for community groups and volunteers
- Assist in data management and reporting and with disseminating results to municipal partners
- Assist with file management by archiving and organizing photos, entering and graphing data, and organizing records
- Provide support for other SSEA programs and operations as needed, including assisting with all water quality and climate monitoring, Invasive species and habitat surveys following accepted scientific and operational procedures
- Assist with the implementation of habitat creation/improvement projects including coordinating volunteers (e.g., children, youth, adults) to assist with site preparation and planting activities
- Participate in weekly meetings and write a final report, summarizing project activities
- Perform other duties as required to support SSEA operations

3. Lake Stewardship & Habitat Technician
Main Responsibilities:
- Support direct engagement with local lake associations and the community, providing education on what individuals can do to support a healthy lake, and protect the local environment.
- Promote landowner and community knowledge and appreciation for lake health, human impacts) and shoreline stewardship best practices, including naturalization, and invasive species identification and management.
- Develop and deliver clear and compelling education and communication materials (fact sheets, website and social media content, presentations, articles, newsletters) to foster awareness and implementation of best practices, including attending community events, and direct outreach through dock-to-dock visits on inland lake(s) in the SSEA area.
- Assist with identification and biology of local plants and animals including native and invasive species.
- Assist with planning and implementing habitat creation/enhancement projects (e.g., tree planting, pollinator initiatives).
- Assist with field work (e.g., accurate data recording, use of technical equipment, record keeping etc.).
- Provide support for other SSEA programs as needed, including participating in environmental monitoring/field surveys (e.g., plants, wildlife
- Participate in weekly meetings, track metrics and support writing of reports summarizing project activities and accomplishments.
- Perform other duties as required to support SSEA operations.
Qualifications and Key Skills:
- Have or working towards a post-secondary degree or diploma in natural resources management, environmental science, biology, ecosystem restoration, ecology, or a related area of study.
- Good communication skills, including written and verbal, to present varied information in a form appropriate to the audience.
- Good analytical, data management, and organizational skills.
- Ability to think creatively when problem solving.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, to work collaboratively.

4. Communication and Outreach Assistant
Main Responsibilities:
- Develop and design clear and compelling communication, education and outreach materials (videos, fact sheets, website and social media content, annual reports, presentations, articles, newsletters, media releases, etc.).
- Assist with optimizing social media communications.
- Attend community events to engage with the community on environmental issues.
- Assist in writing and compiling the annual report for the organization
- Foster awareness and community support for environmental initiatives – public education and outreach, attend community events, facilitate workshops, social media communication.
- Review SSEA’s website and assist with enhancements and updates.
- Help brainstorm and implement new strategies aimed at building community awareness about the work of the Severn Sound Environmental Association.
- Participate in weekly meetings and write a final report, summarizing project activities and accomplishments.
- Perform other duties as required to support SSEA operations.
Qualifications and Key Skills:
- Has or working towards a post-secondary diploma or degree in communication, environmental science, or a related field.
- Excellent computer skills, with strong experience in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Good analytical, verbal and written communication, and organizational skills.
- Experience with social media platforms (ex. Instagram and Facebook) and content creation.
- Ability to think creatively when problem solving.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, to work collaboratively.

5. Office Administrative Assistant
Main Responsibilities:
- Assist with information management, including scanning, organizing, filing, storing, and destruction of paper and ele ctronic records.
- Input information from various sources into spreadsheets and databases.
- Assist with developing policies and procedures, manuals, forms and templates.
- Conduct and compile research data, statistics and other information as required.
- Assist Corporate Communications with Severn Sound Environmental Association website updates, maintenance and monitoring.
- Provide front counter assistance and back up; including taking, responding to, and redirecting incoming phone calls as required.
- Increase public awareness of local environmental issues through the development of educational and outreach materials in-house, including news articles and social media content and attending public events.
- Perform other duties as required to support SSEA operations, including assisting with environmental monitoring or habitat assessments.

- Has or is working towards a post-secondary diploma or degree in municipal administration, environmental science, or a related field.
