Position: GIS Technician
Type: age 30 & under / summer
Organization: Ducks Unlimited Canada
Location: Remote with preference for Eastern Ontario

  • Position Details: Full Time, Fixed Term (approx. May – Aug)
  • Salary: Starting salary at $24.45/hr, based on a 35-hour work week. Salary for this position will be commensurate with each individual's education and/or experience as it relates to the position.
  • Closing Deadline: March 28, 2025 (11:59PM EDT)

What You Will Do

Working with other staff to perform activities related to DUC’s projects, your responsibilities may include:

  • Process, analyze, and manage geospatial datasets, including raster and vector data.
  • Collect drone imagery for orthomosaic creation and communications opportunities.
  • Work with remotely sensed imagery to meet project goals such as vegetation mapping or invasive species management.
  • Consultation and collaboration with team members to create formal map documents in support of habitat retention and restoration using ESRI Products.
  • Aiding field staff through GIS technical expertise using online maps or in-house products.
  • Managing numerous projects on tight deadlines while communicating task status among involved staff.
  • Overseeing quality control of mapping deliverables to ensure data meets project specifications.
  • Field data collection around Ontario.

Depending on the location of the position, there may be times where you will be required to travel to various communities or remote areas. This position may also involve heavy lifting, physical work and outdoor work in all weather conditions. Our ideal candidate will be able to take direction and execute tasks in a safe and efficient manner without direct supervision.

Requirements

  • Completed or enrolled in a technical diploma in GIS and/or university degree in geography, natural resources or related discipline or related experience.
  • Solid understanding and strong working knowledge of ESRI Products.
  • Knowledge of geodatabases and file management systems.
  • Excellent cartographic skills in developing various communication delivery products.
  • Basic understanding of wetland mapping principles and air photo interpretation.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Ability to work well independently and in a team setting while keeping others informed of your progress.
  • A valid driver’s license is required.
  • An affinity to for the outdoors, conservation and the world of waterfowl.
  • A Basic Operations drone license is an asset.
