Position: Community trainer Lake Erie Rangers
Type: age 30 & under / summer
Organization: Water Rangers
Location: Combination remote work but must be based in Niagara Region for in-person work sessions and excursions

Rate: $21/hour
Time: 32 hours/week for 12-16 weeks, from May to August.

Are you a passionate student looking to make a splash this summer? Join the Lake Erie Rangers Project as our Community Coordinator and play a key role in engaging volunteers in water science and stewardship!

About the role:

We’re seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic summer student to coordinate and lead educational initiatives focused on protecting Lake Erie. As the Summer Coordinator, you’ll be at the forefront of community-based water monitoring, inspiring Canadians to become guardians of their local waterways.

Key responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and present educational webinars and in-person events focused on water quality and stewardship.
  • Attend fairs, community gatherings, and outreach activities to teach participants how to monitor water quality effectively.
  • Manage, analyze, and share water quality data, ensuring it is accessible and meaningful to the public.
  • Translate complex scientific information into engaging, easy-to-understand lessons for diverse audiences.
  • Continuously improve educational content based on feedback from supervisors, teachers, and program participants.
  • Contribute to digital communication efforts, including social media management, photography, and blogging.

What you’ll gain:

Position details:

  • Location: Hybrid (approximately 50% remote, 50% in-person across Lake Erie communities).
  • Schedule: Some evening and weekend work required; days off in lieu will be provided.
  • Compensation: Mileage reimbursed at $0.72/km for work-related travel.

Preferred skills and qualifications:

  • Strong interest in environmental science, water monitoring, water stewardship, and education.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Experience with social media, photography, blogging, and data management is an asset.
  • A valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle are highly desirable.

Eligibility: This position is funding-dependent and suited to a student or recent graduate. Our funder requires candidates to be 30 years or younger, a student or recent graduate, and be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment.
