Position: Communications Assistant
Type: age 30 & under / summer
Organization: Swim Drink Fish
Location: Ideally located in Toronto, Kingston, Niagara or elsewhere on the Great Lakes. For the right candidate we *may* consider a different location.

  • Position Type: 18-week contract, 37.5 hours/week. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required. One position available.
  • Wage Range: $21/hr
  • Start Date: May 05th

Swim Drink Fish Canada is a charity dedicated to ensuring swimmable, drinkable, fishable water for everyone. By using community science and storytelling, we inspire millions of people to know and safeguard their waters. We have teams across Canada.

Job Description

The Communications Assistant will work with the Storytelling team to develop and capture content related to our mission and programs. You will be reporting to our Communications Specialist and working alongside other staff and volunteers. We work as a team and are always willing to help each other.

This is primarily a work-from-home position, with some time spent in the field. Reliable internet access is important.

Here’s what you need to do…

  • Assist with online communications, including articles, blog posts, social media, and website.
  • Brainstorm directions, themes, and messaging for future content
  • Help capture photos and videos in the field with Swim Drink Fish teams
  • Enter and help sort donor information in our new database
  • Assist with Swim Drink Fish outreach and engagement events
  • Assist with other Swim Drink Fish initiatives as required

Here’s what you need to have…

  • Excellent writing and editing skills
  • Experience creating content
  • A passion for water stewardship and conservation
  • Experience working collaboratively with a team
  • A post-secondary background in science, environmental studies, communications, journalism, marketing or a related discipline
  • Be motivated and able to work independently
  • Ability to travel to various sites to collect communications assets

Bonus points if you…

  • Have basic graphic design skills
  • Basic photography/videography skills
  • Use the Oxford comma
  • Love puns
  • Love the water!
