Head Counselor Job Description and Responsibilities
As a Head Counselor at Camp Tidnish, you will play a pivotal leadership role in creating a transformative and memorable summer experience for campers and staff alike. Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership and Mentorship:
- Provide guidance, mentorship, and support to a team of camp counselors, ensuring they feel confident and capable in their roles.
- Lead by example, setting a positive tone for camp culture and fostering an environment of teamwork, inclusivity, and respect.
- Facilitate regular team meetings to share feedback, address challenges, and celebrate successes, fostering growth and development throughout the summer.
- Offer coaching and encouragement to counselors, helping them build confidence and skills in activity leadership and camper care.
Activity Planning and Oversight:
- Coordinate and oversee the daily schedule of adaptive activities, ensuring all programs are inclusive, engaging, and tailored to campers’ diverse needs.
- Step in to lead or support activities as needed, ensuring consistency and quality across all camp experiences.
- Foster creativity, problem-solving, and fun by collaborating with counselors to develop innovative programming.
Camper and Staff Well-Being:
- Serve as a key point of contact for addressing camper and staff needs, ensuring a safe and nurturing environment for all.
- Provide support for health-related needs, including assisting campers with mobility, personal care, and medication administration, as required.
- Act as a liaison between staff, campers, and the leadership team, effectively communicating concerns and ensuring solutions are implemented.
Creating a Positive Camp Culture:
- Inspire enthusiasm, positivity, and a sense of belonging in every camper and staff member.
- Promote inclusivity and respect by modeling supportive behaviors and encouraging teamwork.
- Celebrate camper and staff achievements, fostering a culture of recognition and encouragement.
Administrative and Organizational Duties:
- Maintain accurate records of camper care, health needs, and incidents, reporting as necessary to camp leadership.
- Assist in managing camp supplies and resources, ensuring everything needed for programming is readily available and organized.
- Monitor activity participation and engagement, suggesting improvements to ensure every camper’s experience is meaningful and enjoyable.
