YMCA of Southwestern Ontario was founded in 1856 and has over 200 locations from Goderich to Point Pelee, and Windsor to Woodstock. We are one of the largest not-for-profit providers of licensed child care in Canada and have over 100 school age programs across our regions. We also offer settlement services to newcomers, employment programs, mental health support, and youth programs. YMCA of Southwestern Ontario operates two overnight camps, one in Point Pelee National Park, and one on Beausoleil Island in Muskoka. We also have 15 Health & Fitness branches across Southwestern Ontario.

Employees and volunteers of YMCA of Southwestern Ontario are ambassadors for the Y both on and off the job. As we continue to grow, we have a need for the following position:

Position: Camp Henry Overnight Director

Locations:

  • YMCA Camp Henry - Point Pelee National Park, Leamington, ON
  • Remote
  • Wortley YMCA - 165 Elmwood Avenue, London, Ontario, N6C 0A8

Start Date: Immediately on a part time basis (5-10 hours/week), full time beginning in mid-May

Salary: $875/week. May-August (operating season) full time. September- April 5-10 hours/week, hourly rate between $22.00 and $25.00

As part of your total compensation:

  • May be entitled to up to 12 paid personal days – applicable with position and contract length

Camp Henry is the YMCA of Southwestern Ontario’s newest overnight camp. It is located at Point Pelee National Park, amid over 8 km of wildlife and beaches along the beautiful shores of Lake Erie. The first of its kind in the area, the site offers both day overnight camp, family camp and outdoor education programs with the coolest accommodations: state-of-the-art “oTENTiks” (think ‘glamping’ for kids)!

In this role you will:

  • Lead and ensure the quality and safety of camp experiences for children and youth.
  • Inspire and support the overnight camp staff team, fostering their leadership and development.
  • Ensure the delivery of high-quality participant experiences that promote and reflect the YMCA core values and mission statement and YMCA Camping Quality Recommended Practices.
  • Co-ordinate facility operations and schedules with Parks Canada for all buildings and ensure compliance to all relevant provincial regulations/standards.
  • Provide onsite leadership and supervision of all operations during operating seasons.
  • Act as an ambassador for the Y, demonstrating our core values (Caring, Respect, Honesty, Responsibility, Inclusiveness).

What you need to succeed:

  • Previous experience managing and supervising staff in a camp or outdoor education environment (minimum two years)
  • Skills in communication, relationship building and organization.
  • Current Criminal Record Check with a Vulnerable Sector Screening.
