Job Title: Project Coordinator for Capacity Building
Company: JAZZ Solar Solutions Inc.
Location: Canada, mainly Ontario. Travel to First Nations communities is required on an as needed basis.

  • Salary: Compensation includes base salary, a results-based bonus based on Objectives and Key Results (OKRs), and benefits. OKRs are updated from time to time as directed by management. The compensation package is commensurate with knowledge and experience.

JAZZ Solar Solutions Inc. (JAZZ) is a team of skilled and experienced specialists that develop innovative renewable energy solutions utilizing solar PV, battery, and other emerging technologies. The team also provides engineering, procurement, construction, and project management services for the renewable energy projects developed for clients. JAZZ was founded in 2009 by Ketan Bhalla (MSc Electrical Engineering, University of Alberta. 2 patents), a serial entrepreneur whose motto is to be a catalyst of meaningful change for the betterment of society, particularly as it relates to energy. JAZZ has worked closely with over 20 Ontario First Nations, farmers, schools, commercial businesses, and homeowners and has developed over 500 solar PV projects totalling more than 30MW. and has delivered 10 Community Energy Plans for First Nations. These accomplishments have provided a wealth of knowledge, experience, and industry recognition. JAZZ is currently focused on developing an Energy-as-a-Service (EaaS) business model for First Nations (FNs) that entails services being delivered by a FN-owned micro-utilities for the community. The goal is to provide FNs energy reliability and energy sovereignty. This unique model is disruptive and will apply to many FN communities across Canada, thereby providing a path to drive growth across the country.

Position Summary

The Project Coordinator for Capacity Building will play a key role in supporting the development and execution of capacity-building projects, including applied and theoretical training sessions, regulatory navigation, and meaningful policy advocacy. This position requires a detail-oriented and organized professional who can manage multiple tasks, coordinate with stakeholders, and ensure project milestones are met.

In addition to capacity-building responsibilities, this role also includes grant writing and management, assisting with funding applications, proposal development, and ensuring compliance with grant requirements.
 

Objectives and Key Results (OKRs)

  • Coordinate and support the development of capacity-building projects, including training sessions, workshops, and regulatory initiatives.
  • Assist in grant writing efforts, ensuring funding applications align with organizational goals and community needs.
  • Maintain project schedules and grant deliverables to ensure milestones are achieved on time and within budget.
  • Engage in regulatory advocacy and stakeholder collaboration to drive meaningful change and secure necessary funding.
  • Provide regular progress updates to the Director of Capacity Building Projects and other team members.
  • Identify funding opportunities to support capacity-building initiatives.

Primary Responsibilities
Project Coordination and Management:

  • Manage project documentation, schedules, and deliverables, ensuring alignment with project goals. 
  • Coordinate with internal teams and external stakeholders, including First Nation communities, contractors, consultants, government agencies, and advocacy groups.
  • Track project progress and prepare reports for management and stakeholders.
  • Oversee the planning and execution of training sessions, ensuring alignment with community and project needs.

Permitting, Compliance, and Regulatory Navigation:

  • Assist in securing necessary permits and approvals for community-led projects.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory requirements and environmental standards.
  • Work with consultants and agencies to complete regulatory assessments, policy impact studies, and strategic advocacy initiatives.
  • Support First Nation communities in navigating regulatory frameworks that impact their projects.

Stakeholder Engagement & Advocacy:

  • Facilitate communication with local communities, landowners, and government officials.
  • Represent the organization at workshops, training sessions, public consultations, and advocacy meetings.
  • Address inquiries and concerns from stakeholders promptly and effectively.
  • Advocate for regulatory and funding policies that support capacity building and sustainable project development.

Grant Writing & Fund Management:

  • Research, write, and submit grant proposals, ensuring alignment with funding guidelines and organizational priorities.
  • Monitor grant budgets and reporting requirements, working closely with the finance team.
  • Identify opportunities for funding to support capacity-building initiatives.
  • Assist in developing fundraising strategies for long-term sustainability.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies, Engineering, Project Management, or a related field.
  • Experience in renewable energy project development, preferably solar projects.
  • Experience in grant management and/or grant writing.
  • Knowledge of Ontario’s energy policies, permitting processes, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Proficiency in project management software and tools.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment.
