Position: Social Media and Marketing Specialist
Organization: Humber Arboretum

  • Status: Casual Part-time
  • Contract Length: To March 31, 2026, with possibility of extension
  • Hours: Up to 24 hours per week

About Humber Arboretum

Encompassing 100 hectares at the back of Humber Polytechnic North Campus, the Humber Arboretum is free to visit and offers a variety of programming to both Humber Polytechnic students and the general public. It exists as a unique tri-partnership between Humber Polytechnic, the City of Toronto, and the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority.  The Centre for Urban Ecology (CUE) is home to the Humber Arboretum’s educational programs and special events.  At Humber Polytechnic, the Humber Arboretum and CUE are part of the Faculty of Applied Sciences and Technology. What you will do

Reporting to the Communications and Marketing Officer and the Humber Arboretum Manager, the incumbent will be responsible for creating social media content and managing accounts, developing and executing marketing plans related to both programming and educational campaigns, promoting free events and opportunities the the Humber Arboretum offers, and generally raising the profile of the Humber Arboretum on campus and in the community, and supporting the Humber Arboretum’s pillars of thriving nature, healthy communities, and world-ready citizens.

Job Duties

  • Regularly post to the Humber Arboretum social media accounts and interact with followers in accordance with Arboretum guidelines
  • Manage Arboretum accounts on external promotional and event listing sites, including making recommendations on advertising opportunities
  • Capture, edit, and manage photo and video content
  • Assist in the management, organization, and updating of existing photo, video, and graphic assets
  • Utilize graphic design skills to create social media graphics, infographics, and printed content such as brochures and posters
  • As needed, mentor Humber Polytechnic student employees and volunteers working on social media and/or marketing projects on behalf of the Humber Arboretum
  • Collate and report on social media analytics and metrics
  • Regularly advise and update the Communications and Marketing Officer about social media and marketing related matters
  • Seek new opportunities to help the Humber Arboretum reach a wider audience for their events, services, and programming
  • Assist education staff in monitoring the Arboretum’s presence and related community contributions on citizen science platforms
  • Adhere to Humber Arboretum brand guidelines and style guide
  • Approach all responsibilities with respect for nature and a sustainability mindset
  • Ensure AODA compliance with all created materials
  • Other duties, as required.

Qualifications

Education

Completed or working towards a post-secondary degree or diploma in a related field (may be related to communications or horticulture/environment). Equivalent experience will be considered in the absence of post-secondary education.

Skills

  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in a communications role, or the equivalent demonstrated through personal accounts/projects
  • Maintaining social media properties, including content and campaign creation and responding to users
  • Developing marketing strategies and corresponding materials, and executing marketing initiatives
  • Some knowledge of gardening, local flora and fauna, or ecological concepts, demonstrated through related work experience or personal experience, is a requirement for this role
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Good time management and organizational skills
  • Strong ability to manage project timelines and milestones
  • Equally comfortable working independently and within a team
