Job Title: Social Media Manager

Position Overview: We are seeking a passionate and creative Social Media Manager to join our Media team. This role is crucial in amplifying our message, engaging our global community, and driving action through compelling digital storytelling. The ideal candidate is not only an expert in social media but also deeply committed to our mission of protecting marine life and ecosystems.

About the Captain Paul Watson Foundation: The Captain Paul Watson Foundation is an international, non-profit marine conservation organization that uses direct action to protect and conserve marine wildlife and habitats. Founded by Captain Paul Watson, a renowned environmental activist and co-founder of Greenpeace and founder of Sea Shepherd, the Foundation engages in direct-action campaigns to safeguard the oceans and their inhabitants from illegal activities and environmental destruction. We work on the front lines of ocean conservation, challenging poachers, illegal fishers, and other threats to marine life. Our mission is to educate, inspire, and mobilize global communities to protect marine biodiversity.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Content Strategy & Planning:
    • Develop and execute a comprehensive social media strategy aligned with the Captain Paul Watson Foundation’s mission and campaigns.
    • Create, curate, and manage engaging content across all social media platforms (including Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, X, LinkedIn, and YouTube).
  • Community Engagement:
    • Build and nurture a vibrant online community by engaging with followers, responding to comments, and fostering conversations around marine conservation.
    • Monitor and report on social media trends, competitor activities, and audience insights to inform content strategies.
  • Campaign Management:
    • Collaborate with the campaigns team to promote ongoing missions and initiatives, including fundraising efforts, volunteer recruitment, and awareness campaigns.
    • Coordinate with international Captain Paul Watson Foundation chapters to align global messaging and share content across different regions.
  • Analytics & Reporting:
    • Track and analyze key performance metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of social media campaigns.
    • Provide regular reports and recommendations to improve engagement and reach.
  • Brand Voice & Consistency:
    • Ensure that all content is consistent with the Captain Paul Watson Foundation’s brand voice and values, maintaining a strong, recognizable presence across all platforms.
    • Stay updated on industry best practices and emerging trends in social media and digital marketing.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a Social Media Manager or similar role, preferably in the non-profit or environmental sector.
  • Deep understanding of social media platforms, tools, and analytics.
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills, with a strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to think creatively and strategically, with a passion for storytelling.
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to handle multiple campaigns simultaneously.
  • A commitment to environmental conservation and alignment with the Captain Paul Watson Foundation’s mission.
  • Experience with graphic design, video editing, and digital content creation is a plus.
