Position: National Organizer, Mobilization Lead
Organization: Resource Movement
Location: Remote from anywhere in Canada, with a preference for any of the cities where Resource Movement has existing chapters (Ottawa, Vancouver, Montreal or Toronto)
About Resource Movement:
Resource Movement is a diverse youth-led community of people with wealth and/or class privilege working toward the redistribution of wealth, land, and power. Our vision is a world in which all communities can live well and shape their own futures in alignment with the planet; we envision a world that is racially and economically just, in which wealth, land and power are shared, and Indigenous rights are respected. In our work, we educate ourselves about the roots of inequality, encourage each other to take bold action in solidarity with social justice movements, and open space for critical voices within philanthropy. With Chapters in Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver, and Ottawa, our network includes over 300 young people across Canada who participate in learning opportunities, show up for social justice movements, and engage in campaigns.

Overview of Position:
Resource Movement (RM) is seeking an organizer and relationship-builder to lead movement-building, wealth redistribution, and strategic communications as our new National Organizer, Mobilization Lead. This role will support RM’s national efforts to mobilize young people with class and wealth privilege to redistribute land, wealth and power. They will also play a key role in coalition building with social movement groups, focusing on BIPOC- and working class-led movements.
RM organizes a youth-led community of people in Canada with access to wealth or class privilege, to become leaders working towards the equitable distribution of wealth and power. We believe our members (mostly Millenials and Gen Z) have a key role to play in support of social movements and our organizational structure reflects this; we operate using shared and non-hierarchical decision-making and governance processes that enable our members to step into leadership roles. Most of what we do happens within member-led working groups, and most of our staff's tasks are completed in collaboration with these working groups. RM currently has one full time staff member (National Organizer, Base-building Lead) that will collaborate with this role. Reporting to a Supervision and Support Team of RM members, and accountable to the RM membership, the National Organizer, Mobilization Lead will support our volunteer members to develop and carry out our three core mobilizing strategies:
Redistributing wealth: moving money consistently and boldly towards poor and working class-led movements, through collective campaigns and by escalating our members’ individual redistribution towards grassroots groups led by communities most impacted by injustice.
Advocating for structural change: taking part in structural advocacy to win on the issues our movements are fighting for. Supporting our movement partners’ tactical actions and strategic campaigns, and running our own campaigns on issues where our members’ voices can have a disproportionate impact.
Shifting narratives & culture around wealth hoarding: shifting dominant narratives that support private wealth accumulation above collective liberation. Communicating that wealth redistribution is relevant, timely, and irresistible, while wealth-hoarding is an unnecessary and toxic thing of the past.
The National Organizer, Mobilization Lead will use RM’s Theory of Change and other organizational guiding documents to help ground and collaboratively build their work plan, and they will bring their experience and analysis to help inform how RM can most powerfully contribute to progressive movement building. The work plan will include forming new partnerships, supporting future growth of the organization, and facilitating new avenues of engagement with BIPOC-led grassroots community groups. We strongly encourage candidates to draw on their activism and organizing experiences in these communities to inform this role. Further, RM is undertaking ongoing processes around de-centering white supremacy and ableism to which this role will be expected to contribute.
Specific Role Tasks:
Employment Equity
We believe our work is stronger when it benefits from the experience, knowledge and wisdom of people who face systemic barriers. People with disabilities, women, Indigenous people, members of racialized groups, people with poor and working-class experiences, and members of other historically marginalized communities are encouraged to apply.
It is common for members of marginalized groups to only apply for roles if they have 100% of the qualifications – we want to disrupt this. If you are excited about this position but only meet some of our qualifications, we still encourage you to apply.
