Position: Summer Programming Coordinator
Type: age 30 & under / summer
Organization: Relay Education
Location: Southwestern Ontario or GTA preferred (Work from Home with Travel)

  • 0.8 FTE (32 hours/week), 14 week contract
  • Contract Length: May 19 - August 31, 2025
  • Salary: $22.50/hour

The person who fills this position will be responsible for the delivery and coordination of Relay Education’s summer programming for youth. Relay Education staff instruct renewable energy education STEM workshops for youth in Ontario (with potential for travel to other provinces). Relay Education specializes teaching and educating youth about renewable energy, conservation, climate change, and green careers.

What we do: Relay has grown exponentially over the last 5 years, and we are not slowing down. We began as a small charity in Toronto that taught people about renewable energy. Now, we offer diverse programs across Canada, have international partnerships, coordinate green internships for youth, co-develop and deliver training and workshops with Indigenous nations. All of this is working towards our mission goal of educating, inspiring, and assisting individuals and communities in building a 100% renewable energy future.

The candidate will be expected to deliver programming in schools and youth camps throughout their designated region and beyond. Administrative activities and program coordination are completed in a work-from-home environment. While Relay staff is situated throughout Canada, we are in constant contact through a variety of methods. Individuals on our team are responsible for their region, but we always support our team members as needed. We work as a team!

Job Description

Relay Education utilizes science-based learning in all of our programs. Relay’s programming is delivered to educate students about science curriculum-linked topics, such as electricity, energy resources, conservation, and career building. In this role, the successful candidate will work primarily with elementary and secondary students either in classrooms or in summer camps. The position will coordinate and lead workshops about renewable energy technology, such as wind turbines and solar panels. They will deliver Relay Education’s renewable energy education content; facilitate career workshops and maintain workshop equipment and supplies. Programming will be provided across Ontario, including Indigenous communities and northern communities. Travel will be required. While the role will be primarily 0.8 FTE, dependent on schedule some weeks of the summer may be full-time. We will provide time off in lieu to adjust accordingly.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Summer Programming Coordinator will report directly to our National Indigenous Programs Manager and Southwestern Ontario and Indigenous Programs Manager. They will be responsible for the delivery of educational programs. The successful candidate will:

  • Work collaboratively with Relay Education staff to coordinate the charity’s summer programming;
  • Communicate respectfully with Indigenous communities, teachers and educators in the region to deliver workshops;
  • Deliver renewable energy STEM and environmental career awareness workshops online and in person to participants (students) in classrooms, and in summer camps provided in Indigenous communities. This includes preparing for workshops in advance, travelling to workshop sites as necessary and setting up all required supplies and equipment;
  • Ensure education equipment is adequately stocked, sanitized, and maintained;
  • Communicate with teachers or event organizers to coordinate logistical arrangements;
  • Work with the Indigenous programs manager and marketing manager to provide photos and information for posts and social media.

Qualifications

  • (Required) Current full or part-time student at a Canadian post-secondary institution;
  • (Asset) Experience teaching in a formal educational environment;
  • (Asset) Familiarity with the Ontario Science Curriculum;
  • (Asset) Experience working with or in and or teaching in Indigenous communities or working with Indigenous youth;
  • Experience in speaking to groups and diverse audiences of various age levels;
  • A knowledge and understanding of Indigenous peoples and culture is considered a preference
  • Knowledge of and passion for environmental issues;
  • Excellent time-management and organizational skills;
  • Ability to take initiative and be accountable for decisions;
  • Sense of humour and team-oriented work ethic;
  • Adept at using Microsoft software;
  • Ability to lift 20-50 pounds;
  • (Required) Reliable access to a vehicle;
  • (Required) Valid G Drivers License;
  • Vulnerable Sector Screening clearance necessary for hire;
