Position: Project Manager
Company: Forest Gene Conservation Association of Ontario
Location: Southern Ontario (working from home with field work)

  • Salary: $70,000- 77,000 (Flexible hours and other benefits)
  • Deadline: December 9, 2024 at 5:00pm EST
  • Desired Start date: January 6, 2024
  • Term of employment: 1-Year Contract (maternity leave replacement)
  • Work hours: 35-37.5 hours/week

The Forest Gene Conservation Association (FGCA) is a not for profit organization unique in its focus on gene conservation, the foundation of resilient forests. Our goal is to work with and assist forest practitioners to conserve and augment the genetic diversity of forests. Description

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Project Manager is responsible for fulfilling a range of program deliverables and coordination responsibilities that support the Seed and Climate Change Programs of the FGCA. This position will manage two full-time staff over the course of the contract. The duties will mainly focus on ensuring all projects within these programs remain on schedule, milestones achieved, reporting requirements are completed and partners needs are met. This position requires a high level of understanding of all of the projects within this department, good management skills as well as the ability to be flexible and approachable. The successful candidate should possess good communication and organization skills, be supportive of staff autonomy, maintain good record keeping and be adaptable to change.

Duties include:

  • Managing the FGCA GIS and Database Technician and Seed Program Coordinator
  • Keeping good records of funder milestones, deadlines and deliverables
  • Compiling and completing project reports
  • Contributing to funding asks
  • Supporting team on project/program delivery to meet deadlines
  • Supporting CEO in the development of quarterly reports, annual reports and operating plans
  • Connecting with the Director of Species Conservation regarding human resources and project support
  • Delivering presentations to clients and at conferences as required
  • Supporting the coordination of the Canadian Forest Genetics Conference (Summer 2025)
  • Other duties, dependent upon candidate experience.

Requirements:

  • 3-5 years of experience working in the not-for-profit or natural resources sector
  • 2 or more years experience in project management and or management role
  • Experience working in the following sectors or working closely with organizations that operate in natural resource management, forestry, ecology and horticulture
  • Comfortable working with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel and Word and Google Workspace
  • G license and access to a reliable vehicle

Skills Required:

  • Detail oriented, have strong analytical, problem solving, documentation, project management, and communication skills
  • Initiative and the ability to achieve results while working independently with minimal supervision
  • Adaptable to change and capable of communicating new ideas effectively
  • Ability to prioritize with multiple demands and deadlines
  • Strong public speaking and communication skills

Additional Assets:

  • Experience in grant writing and project reporting
  • French fluency/translation
  • Familiarity with Tableau Desktop software
  • Post-Secondary diploma in Forestry, Ecology, Horticulture or related Natural Resource field, or equivalent operational experience
