Position: Program Manager – Green Infrastructure

Location: Currently, work-from-home / hybrid arrangements are in place, with the requirement to attend our EcoHouse office in Stoney Creek and/or community events at various locations in Hamilton approximately 2-3 days/week including on some evenings and weekends, which would require the position-holder to reside in the Hamilton area.

About Green Venture:
We are an established and impactful non-profit environmental organization that inspires and equips Hamilton residents to take individual and collective action to preserve our natural environment, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and build a community resilient to climate change. We operate out of EcoHouse – an 1850s farmhouse in east Hamilton with 2 acres of gardens and sustainable living demonstrations. Our team is focused on making positive environmental action happen every day and we use creativity, practical tools, and demonstrating environmental action to engage our community to achieve our mission.
About the Position:
We are seeking an experienced Program Manager to lead Green Venture’s green infrastructure, urban forest, and garden programs. Current programs include the Rain Ready Stormwater Rebate, Mini Forests, Urban Gardening and Stewardship, Depave, and EcoHouse Garden Programs. You will oversee and implement existing programs, strategize new initiatives, and guide program evaluation, impact measurement and reporting. Additionally, you will develop and manage deadlines, budgets and activities, secure grants and sponsorships to fund this work, and engage the community by mobilizing individuals, schools, neighbourhoods, and corporate groups to action. To achieve this, you will lead a team of project coordinators, assistants, students, and volunteers. Your work will enable Green Venture to achieve our key strategic objectives, including reducing climate vulnerability in our community by increasing the adoption of green stormwater infrastructure, and developing programs that centre equity principles to expand our impact and prioritize a meaningful connection to nature for all Hamiltonians.
Requirements and qualifications of the ideal candidate:
- You are a motivated leader, engaging community organizer and communicator, and an adaptable team player who works collaboratively with team members, community partners, and volunteers.
- You have expertise in green infrastructure, typically demonstrated by completing post-secondary education and previous work experience in fields such as: ecology, environmental science, Indigenous environmental studies, landscape architecture, environmental planning, horticulture, or forestry.
- You have a minimum of 2-3 years’ professional experience managing a team, and demonstrated strengths in project management from concept to implementation, including budgeting and evaluation, relationship-building and partnership development.
- You have superior organization, problem-solving and communication skills.
- You are available for occasional weekend and evening work, and have a reliable method of transportation to travel around the Hamilton area.

Responsibilities:
- Research, plan, promote, and implement Green Venture programs in accordance with the mission and strategic goals of the organization.
- Aligned with our organizational core values, represent Green Venture in the community, coordinating and delivering outreach events, activities, and presentations to a variety of audiences.
- Recruit, train, and supervise program coordinators, assistants, volunteers, and students.
- Develop and implement program, service and event work plans capturing key goals, targets, timelines, tasks, and reporting requirements to ensure effective program delivery and coordination among the team.
- Develop and manage budgets, metrics, and program assessment tools to ensure delivery of successful programs that drive strategic benefits and organizational growth.
- Analyze and evaluate program outcomes and produce all necessary reports for funders, stakeholders and the Executive Director.
- Create program posters, brochures and press materials and develop and maintain related web pages, blog posts, and social media content to publicize events, share key program messages and engage and grow our community reach.
- Work closely with other program managers and staff to enhance the promotion, awareness and reputation of Green Venture in the community.
- Strategize and implement new programs, activities and events to support Green Venture’s strategic direction and long-term goals.
- Secure necessary funds to expand programs through grant applications, fundraising, or fee-for-service activities.
- Maintain and develop relationships with stakeholders, funders, government, other community organizations and businesses and actively participate in fundraising and donor outreach.
- Conduct program-related presentations and workshops, attend community and partner meetings, and act as official representative on community organizations and committees as directed.
- Participate in other Green Venture activities as required by the Executive Director (e.g. health and safety committee, staff meetings, other opportunities that may arise from time to time that require support).

Terms of Employment:
- Full-time, permanent position.
- Salary range of $54,000 - $64,000, commensurate with experience.
- Enrolment in group benefits and a flexible health and wellness spending account.
- 35 hours per week, with occasional evening and weekend work required.
- We offer flexible scheduling, time in lieu, paid emergency leave, and a winter office closure.
- Currently, work-from-home / hybrid arrangements are in place, with the requirement to attend our EcoHouse office in Stoney Creek and/or community events at various locations in Hamilton approximately 2-3 days/week including on some evenings and weekends, which would require the position-holder to reside in the Hamilton area.
- Class G driver's license and access to a vehicle, or alternative way to get around the city will be required.
- Successful candidate will be required to complete a Police Reference Check.
