  • Hourly wage: $19.31/hr + 4% in lieu of Vacation Pay

Eligibility

This position is funded in part by Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ). CSJ positions require that applicants MUST meet the following criteria.

  • (a) Between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment;
  • (b) A Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act [S.C. 2001, c. 27]*; and
  • (c) Is legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial / territorial legislation and regulations.
  • *International students are not eligible. Recent immigrants are eligible if they are Canadian Citizens or permanent residents.

Applicants who do not meet the aforementioned criteria will not be considered for the position.

About the Job

Are you passionate about nature, education, and working with children? We’re looking for enthusiastic and responsible Day Camp Leaders to help deliver our outdoor summer day camps for children aged 6 to 11. Our EcoCamps provide hands-on, nature-based learning experiences that explore the forests, wetlands, and intertidal zones of Stanley Park. As a Day Camp Leader, you’ll be part of a supportive, mission-driven team that helps young people discover the wonders of nature through exploration, play, and inquiry-based learning. This is a meaningful opportunity to build your experience in outdoor education while making a lasting impact in a beautiful, park-based setting.

Role Responsibilities

  • Plan, implement, and lead engaging outdoor activities aligned with SPES’ EcoCamp curriculum
  • Supervise and ensure the safety and wellbeing of camp participants at all times
  • Mentor and support camp volunteers during daily programming
  • Communicate clearly and respectfully with campers, parents, and staff
  • Maintain, organize, and prepare program materials and supplies
  • Participate in training, regular check-ins, and end-of-season program evaluation

Qualifications

Education, Experience and Training

  • Experience leading day camps, outdoor education programs, or working with children in a group setting
  • Familiarity with local ecosystems and a passion for environmental education
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and team collaboration skills
  • Able to confidently lead active programs outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Post-secondary studies in education, biology, environmental science, or related fields are considered an asset
  • Comfortable navigating and supervising groups in natural areas, including trails and beach environments

Licenses and Requirements

  • Emergency First Aid with CPR-C (or willingness to obtain by start date)
  • Successful completion of a Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening
  • Ability to meet all Canada Summer Jobs eligibility requirements
