Eco-friendly / organic farming

Hiring: Organic farm help
Farm: Cedar Hedge Farm

Location: near Port Hope/ Oshawa/GTA ON
Housing: ??

We are looking to fill one full-time and one part-time position.

Cedar Hedge Farm is a small 10-acre farm focused on growing as naturally as possible. We are an off-grid, non-certified organic farm that does not spray and only uses organic fertilizers.

In 2013 we purchased a commercial corn field, and then the adventure began. Over the past 9 years we have been working hard to build the type of farm we want. One that works with nature, not against it and understands that we need to save more than 10 acres of the planet.

The goal is to produce food in a manner that is healthy for both the person eating it and the environment as a whole. We are limiting our carbon footprint and have removed all non-natural fertilizers and pesticides. The farm is as organic as possible without formal certification. By creating balance and a self-sustaining environment we have seen a regeneration in the soil and all that lives in and on it. Our view on the words “bad bug” and “weed” is that they don’t really exist. Everything has a purpose and it’s our job as the supposedly intelligent species to figure out how to work with these living creatures. We all have a purpose. This means that we may not always produce the prettiest vegetables but they will be healthy.

The farm is located on Country Rd 28, 10 minutes North of Port Hope, just south of Rice Lake.

Main Role: You will get a chance to participate in all aspects of farm operation from greenhouse work and transplanting in the spring to weeding, sucession planting, weekly harvesting and packing in the summer and cold frame, greenhouse, and covered crop planting and harvesting, large frost sensitive crop harvests and crop storage in the fall.
