Role
TTCriders is seeking a senior non-profit leader to fill the role of Executive Director on a permanent basis. We are seeking a creative, collaborative, strategic leader who is committed to collective, democratic action. The new Executive Director should have a proven track record in campaigning, communications, fundraising, and management. This person should be keen to grow our vibrant organization to help build more transit rider power and win campaigns.
Responsibilities
The Executive Director is responsible for delivering on numerous tasks, providing leadership, and overseeing projects. The Executive Director’s work is guided by TTCriders’ vision and direction from our Board of Directors and our membership. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Fundraising
- Maintain relationships with funders, including tracking and reporting on deliverables and financials to funders;
- Research and apply to grants;
- Working with the Board Fundraising Committee, oversee and execute fundraising and donor stewardship plans to grow our monthly donor base and secure new funding sources;
- Generate revenues to meet or exceed projected annual budgets;
- Coordinate fundraising activities among staff and volunteers.
Governance and Operations
- Support the Board of Directors to organize regular Board and Board Committee meetings (Fundraising, Finance, Governance, and ad-hoc Committees), provide monthly financial and staff reports, and support the organization of an Annual General Meeting;
- Oversee recruitment, hiring, supervision, and professional development of staff, placement students, and volunteers;
- Ensure financial and governance procedures and policies are followed in accordance with the directives of the Board and all other legal/regulatory requirements;
- Ensure operations are compliant with TTCriders’ bylaws and policies;
- Working with a bookkeeper, oversee and manage finances including managing expenditures, revenues, and cash flow;
- Seek approvals and collaborate with the Board on important organizational issues and campaign activities that could create risk.
Campaigns and Programming
- Collaborating with TTCriders members and volunteers, develop and oversee issue-based campaigns in consultation with the Board of Directors, staff, allied organizations, and other stakeholders;
- Keep abreast of transit policy developments and changes in the external environment and plan for future events, challenges, and opportunities and their potential impact on TTCriders and public transit policies;
- Oversee TTCriders training programs and lead workshops and trainings as needed to cultivate volunteer leadership and build collective community power;
- Work with staff, members, and volunteers to set goals and track outcomes and engagement;
- Collaborate with TTCriders members and volunteers to support campaign research and writing, including submitting Freedom of Information requests.
Communications and Public Relations
- Oversee all communications to ensure they are consistent with TTCriders’ policy positions and brand, guided by TTCriders’ vision and direction from our membership and Board of Directors;
- Oversee TTCriders media relations, guided by TTCriders’ vision and direction from our membership;
- Represent TTCriders publicly in the media and in public appearances e.g. panels;
- Develop and implement communications strategies including media relations such as press releases and advisories, write communications assets such as blog posts, flyers, posters, and newsletters, and oversee creation of digital content;
- Ensure website and online content is maintained and up to date;
- Maintain a positive and professional reputation for TTCriders and cultivate and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders, including grassroots community leaders, allied organizations and movements, elected officials, academic institutions and independent experts, funding organizations, and major donors.

Qualifications and Experience:
- Experience developing and executing issue-based campaigns;
- Experience in community organizing and base-building;
- Experience delivering workshops and facilitating meetings and strategic planning;
- Knowledge of key political and community and stakeholder networks;
- Experience and knowledge of fundraising from individual donors and foundations;
- Experience in a fast-paced environment with competing deadlines and multiple stakeholders;
- A proven track record in leadership, communications, and motivation;
- Experience creating and managing budgets;
- At least 3-5 years of government relations experience, preferably with some knowledge at the municipal level;
- At least 5-7 years of demonstrated management experience including non-profit management, staff oversight, volunteer management, and team building;
- University or college degree or equivalent experience in the sector.

- Strong interpersonal skills, including managing staff and volunteers;
- Demonstrated commitment to anti-oppressive practices and policies;
- Strong understanding of social justice and equity, with a passion for local democracy;
- Proficiency with digital campaign and communication tools (New/Mode, NationBuilder, Canva) and social media platforms (Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, TikTok, WhatsApp).
Terms of Employment
Full time permanent
Salary range: $70,000 - $85,000
Salary commensurate with experience
Start Date: late March to mid April 2025
Location: Toronto, Canada
Hours: 40 per week. Some weekend and evening work may be required, and flexibility to work when volunteers and members of the public are available for meetings and events.
