Title: Bookkeeping & Accounting Clerk (intermediate level)

We are seeking an intermediate-level Bookkeeping & Accounting Clerk to join our team and help us maintain the financial integrity of our organization and the non-profits and charities we support.

About the Role

Reporting to the Finance & Accounting Lead and collaborating with the Partnership Services Team, you will ensure that the Foundation’s financial systems and processes are accurate, reliable, and efficient. This role is critical in supporting strategic decision-making, maintaining compliance, and ensuring transparency in the management of charitable funds.

This is a part-time position (17.5 hours per week) with the expectation of increased hours over time.

Key Responsibilities

  • Track income and expenses against project budgets and donations from platforms like CanadaHelps.
  • Initiate and manage payments through online banking.
  • Run and maintain payroll and benefits programs.
  • Provide full-cycle bookkeeping services for several smaller nonprofits and charities.
  • Compile grant financial reports for funders.
  • Prepare financial, budget, and cash flow reports for the board and management.
  • Coordinate annual external audits.
  • Handle statutory reporting (e.g., GST, Workers’ Compensation, Charity Returns, Nonprofit Returns).
  • Develop and articulate bookkeeping policies and procedures.
  • Support general administrative tasks, including maintaining a shared filing system.

What We're Looking For

Experience:

  • At least 3 years in a similar role.

Education/Certification:

  • Professional Bookkeeper or Accountant Certification (or equivalent experience and education).

Technical Skills:

  • Advanced knowledge of spreadsheets (Google Sheets) and accounting software (QuickBooks).
  • Experience with payroll systems and government reporting.
  • Familiarity with multi-project charities/nonprofits is an asset.

  • Comfortable working in a remote, entrepreneurial/start-up environment.
  • Self-managed accountability with the confidence to speak up when required.
