Summer job: Nature Interpreter
Eligibility: age 30 & under / summer
Organization: Ottawa-Carleton Wildlife Centre
Location: west-end Ottawa/Nepean, near Moodie & Carling.

Duration: 9 weeks; 30 hours/week
Rate of Pay: $17.20/hour

Nature Interpreter

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Research, develop and deliver programming intended to connect people to nature and to educate them about urban wildlife. Topics include access nature near them, enjoying the diversity of species we share our spaces with; providing the tools to assist in reducing conflict with wildlife and valuing and preserving habitat in their neighbourhoods. Programs will be designed to engage families, youth and seniors, particularly in retirement residences. The goal is to educate about local natural environment and ways to enjoy and protect it.
  • Research opportunities for on-line giving potential, potential donors and social media presence.
  • Develop short education videos, update the Centre’s website, assisted with targeted education campaigns for the community.
  • Assist in a range of tasks involved in the day-to-day operations of a small organization, including data entry, light cleaning.

Qualifications:

  • Able to multitask
  • Strong organizational skills
  • A passion for wildlife and nature
  • Dependable and responsible
  • Able to work independently

To be eligible, students must:

  • be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment
  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment
  • have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
