Title: Outreach Intern

ROLE SUMMARY

Are you passionate about nature and eager to inspire others to protect it? As an Outreach Intern with the Nature Trust of New Brunswick, you'll play a key role in expanding our reach and deepening relationships with communities across the province. From helping to plan and lead engaging events to mobilizing volunteers for hands-on conservation work, you'll be at the forefront of connecting people with nature. This is your chance to make a tangible difference while developing valuable skills in event planning, volunteer engagement, and partnership building.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Assist in the planning, coordination, and execution of engaging public events, including stewardship activities and volunteer-driven initiatives that bring people closer to nature.
• Represent the Nature Trust at community events, public gatherings, and volunteer booths to inspire and educate attendees about our mission.
• Play an active role in organizing flagship events such as the Great Fundy Coastal Cleanup, working closely with internal teams to deliver impactful experiences.
• Support stewardship projects, including ecological restoration, trail maintenance, and species monitoring
• Collaborate with the Stewardship and Conservation teams to promote events and engage with landholders participating in voluntary conservation programs.
• Support volunteer recruitment, onboarding, and tracking efforts using our Constituent Relationship Management (CRM) system (Salesforce), ensuring meaningful engagement with our supporters.
• Help foster and strengthen relationships with New Brunswick communities, businesses, and partner organizations to expand our network and increase participation.
• Assist in the creation and implementation of outreach strategies that inspire individuals to take action and support our conservation initiatives.
• Assist in the development of promotional materials and content (social media, website, email campaigns), including the use of Canva and other design tools;
• Assist in fundraising and fund development efforts, including sponsorship outreach, donor stewardship activities, and supporting the delivery of fundraising events and campaigns.

Qualifications, Skills & Experience

• Currently enrolled in or graduated from a post-secondary program in Forestry, Natural Sciences, Environmental Sciences/Studies, Communications, Leadership, Event Planning. Equivalent work experience will also be considered.
• Strong public speaking, group facilitation, and interpersonal skills—comfortable engaging with diverse audiences.
• Physically fit with fieldwork skills and experience with data collection are assets.
• Outgoing, proactive, and self-motivated with a passion for community engagement and conservation.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to juggle multiple tasks and deadlines.
• Experience in event planning, coordination, and logistics.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling messages for diverse audiences.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and familiarity with CRM systems such as Salesforce (an asset but not required).
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• Proficiency in identifying flora and fauna in New Brunswick is an asset.
• Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset.

Work Environment

The Outreach and Engagement Intern can expect a fast-paced work environment with the need to manage several projects at once.

The Nature Trust is a team-based environment filled with external interaction. The work is hybrid, and it is expected that they have access to a quiet workspace with internet when not working from the office. There will be periodic visits to nature preserves as required. They must be willing to travel and work flexible hours at times, including the potential for overnight trips to remote areas. Physical fitness is required at times because field days are long and can be strenuous, and occur in all weather conditions.

Start Date: May 5, 2025 (flexible)

Length: 4-6 months (funding dependent)

Wage: $16-$18 (depending on experience and funding)
