Positions: Landscaper
Company: Common Ground Landscape Design
Location: Toronto, Ontario
We design build and maintain gardens in the city of Toronto. Our primary focus is our attention to detail. We are paid hourly and this gives us the necessary time to properly and thoroughly weed, prune, mow, edge, mulch, trim, identify pests and drainage problems as well as plan for future visits. We work with our customers throughout the changing seasons. From Spring clean-ups and fertilizing, planting annuals, right through to Fall bulb planting and putting the garden to bed.
We are looking for 1 full time and 1 part time candidate who has a great work ethic and works well with others and independently. Someone with a strong back and can work a full 8-8.5 hour day in the sun, rain or even snow. You must have experience pruning various shrubs, trees and can deadhead various perennials. It is important that you listen and take direction well and respectfully. Most importantly, you have to have a good sense of humour, especially when the last brown bag just ripped, the soil delivery is 3 hours late, the wheelbarrow just broke and your co-worker just discovered country music. Being able to improvise and pivot in the face of unforseen obstacles is pretty essential. This position is perfect for someone with great leadership skills and a commitment to delivering excellence.
All of our customers are residential, and we look after a busy downtown BIA.
You do not need to have a driver's licence or a vehicle. It is certainly helpful, but not necessary. Most of our properties are accessible by ttc. Our season typically begins the first week of April, and we work straight through till November/December. We also have customers in Muskoka, Port Hope, Port Perry and Uxbridge. You will be given lots of advance notice if we venture out of the city for the day.
Some of the benefits of working for Common Ground.
We are a multi-generational BIPOC friendly company, and we respect all body types and ages. Preference is given to candidates who are passionate about garden design and maintenance . Having a creative art and design background is definitely an asset. We are as organically based as we can be, and having said that, we do come across magnolia or catalpa trees infested with scale, or roses ravaged by aphids where we have to intervene.
We work Monday to Friday from 9-5/5:30 and are open to accommodating various needs if it's your day to pick up your kids, or you have other pre-existing classes or arrangements that need to be met.
We pay for 1 weekly class. Whether it's yoga, chi gong, or a spinning class. Anything you need to do to keep your body flexible and strong.
We work with safety in mind, and as such we work with the WSIB to help keep you safe in the unlikely event of an accident.
Your hours will make you eligable for EI at the end of the season
We have a group health fund for various health related needs.
Pay will be reflected by your experience. We will only contact prospective employees, and we look forward to hearing from you.
