Indigenous-led conservation, Nature based solutions

Position: Network Weaver
Organization: RAD (Restore, Assert and Defend) Network
Location: This is a remote position open to candidates based in Canada. Travel for events or in-person gatherings will be required.

Position Overview:

The Restore Assert Defend (RAD) Network is seeking a dynamic and skilled Network Weaver to join our growing team. This full-time 1 year contract (renewable annually), is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a transformative movement for regenerative Indigenous-led conservation and nature-based solutions. The Network Weaver will play a key role in fostering engagement, outreach, and communications, working collaboratively to strengthen connections across the RAD Network. This position supports our shared vision of sustainability and abundance for Indigenous-led nature and climate solutions, and is central to our healthy network functioning. We are seeking a dynamic, relationship-focused, organized communicator who loves connecting, is skilled at hosting events and convening, and can maintain and grow our network systems and tools.

About the RAD Network:

RAD is a network of Indigenous leaders, Knowledge Carriers, communities, and allies across sectors advancing Indigenous-led conservation through collaboration, co-learning, and reciprocity. We focus on connecting Indigenous Nations and communities with the resources and tools needed to advance conservation initiatives, such as Indigenous Protected and Conserved Areas (IPCAs) and nature-based solutions. We work to ensure the growing field of nature finance is rooted in Indigenous rights and responsibilities. Together, we aim to support community visions for sustainability and climate resilience.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Network Engagement and Development:
    • Catalyze and support network activities in alignment with strategic priorities
    • Maintain and grow relationships and engagement across RAD Network members, allies, and partners working closely with the Community Engagement Specialist.
    • Build collective strategies with RAD Network team, leadership, and membership including delivery of shared learning activities, events, and collaborative projects.
    • Strengthen and build connections with Indigenous Nations, Guardians, community members, ENGO and academic collaborators and partners, government, and private sector.
    • Actively connect people across the network, identify strategic opportunities, and enable self-organization among network participants to deepen their impact.
    • Facilitate co-learning and collaboration among network participants.
  • Communications:
    • Craft and distribute compelling content, including newsletters, social media posts, and other outreach materials, aligned with RAD’s mission and values.
    • Maintain and grow RAD’s digital presence, managing content on website and social media channels.
    • Collaborate on the design and implementation of our Podcast.
    • Draft and edit program-related materials such as press releases, community-facing content, blog posts, and reports.
  • Network Coordination:
    • Support planning and execution of events, including workshops, webinars, communities of practice, accelerator circles and in-person gatherings.
    • Undertake logistics and promotion for events, ensuring effective communication with participants and seamless convening experience.
    • Monitor and evaluate engagement activities, providing insights to inform future strategies.
    • Maintain and develop online tools and systems to support the network including contact database, ensuring up-to-date information for network members, partners, and collaborators.
  • Collaborative Support:
    • Work closely with the RAD Stewardship Circle and team members to align engagement and outreach efforts with RAD’s broader strategy.
    • Assist with the development of funding proposals and reports related to network activities.

QUALIFICATIONS

An Ideal candidate for the RAD Network Weaver:

  • Has worked for a network and/or has experience in network design, participation or partnerships, and is comfortable with decentralized, inclusive models of organizing and communication.
  • Has at least 5 years experience in engagement, outreach, and communications, preferably in an Indigenous community and/or conservation context.
  • Is a skilled communicator who crafts compelling and accessible narratives for diverse audiences and can effectively promote the organization, our mission and outcomes, including speaking with network members, First Nations, diverse organizational representatives, media, donors, potential donors.
  • Has strong understanding of Indigenous-led conservation, Reconciliation and lived realities in First Nations and Indigenous communities.
  • Demonstrates cultural competency and a commitment to equity, justice, and decolonization.
  • Is detail-oriented with excellent organizational and project management skills.
  • Is comfortable working with digital tools, including social media platforms, content management systems (e.g., WordPress), and project management tools (e.g., Asana, Slack, WhatsApp).
  • Has experience coordinating events and facilitating group discussions or collaborative activities.
  • Is flexible and adaptable, able to work effectively in a dynamic and growing organization.
  • Enjoys working in a virtual team environment and is able to work effectively from home and independently.

Additional Assets:

  • Knowledge of Indigenous languages and cultural protocols.
  • Familiarity with philanthropic and other funding initiatives for Indigenous-led initiatives.
  • Podcast hosting and/or editing or video experience would be advantageous
  • Experience in graphic design or digital marketing.
  • Background and/or interest in Indigenous Protected and Conserved Areas, forestry or resource management, community economic development, nature-based solutions, environmental policy, and social/conservation finance.

Compensation: Salary range: $75,000-$80,000 annually, commensurate with experience. Full time or 4 days/week is negotiable (prorated).
