INDIGENOUS ENGAGEMENT

Position: Indigenous Engagement Coordinator
Organization: Ontario Land Trust Alliance
Location: Remote, with occasional in-person meetings in Toronto and travel around southern Ontario

About Ontario Land Trust Alliance (OLTA)

The Ontario Land Trust Alliance (OLTA) is an environmental charitable organization, with a mission to empower a vibrant and enduring land conservation community in Ontario. OLTA accomplishes this through providing direct support for nature conservation and stewardship, offering training and educational programs, promoting community networking, helping to ensure land trusts meet (and exceed) a set of national standards and practices, and raising the profile of the work of land and nature trusts.

Indigenous communities have stewarded lands in Ontario for millennia and continue to perform vital conservation work. As our organization continues to grow in our capacity to provide financial and technical support to land trusts, we are aiming to overcome some of the historical and cultural barriers that hinder Indigenous land trusts from accessing the supports we offer. We are seeking an Indigenous Engagement Coordinator to assist our efforts in supporting Indigenous led land trusts and Indigenous led-conservation efforts.

The candidate will identify barriers within OLTA practices that hinder the access of our programming by Indigenous land trusts, engage with Indigenous land trusts from across Ontario to understand their priorities, and conduct research on decolonizing our granting programs. They will also connect and support other land trusts to encourage partnerships between these groups.

As per funding requirements, we are seeking a youth (under 30 years old) that is a member of the Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour (BIPOC) community. Lived experience with Indigenous communities is a strong asset.
