Sustainable Roots Ecological Restoration Inc. was born from a desire to see positive change in the way that we view urban ecological restoration. We are dedicated to increasing local biodiversity through pollinator garden installation, invasive species management, reforestation, and educational outreach.

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced horticulturist with expertise in native plants of southern Ontario to lead and expand our native plant garden division. This role involves client interaction, garden design, and project management. The ideal candidate will work closely with company owners initially and gain more independence over time.

Sustainable Roots has been growing steadily since 2020, and we are seeking to expand our native plant garden offerings by hiring a qualified, creative and motivated project lead.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for new and existing clients.
  • Conduct site visits, assess conditions (e.g., light exposure, soil quality), and take measurements.
  • Design beautiful, ecologically functional gardens in diverse settings, from urban front yards to rural landscapes. (Note: We have a standard design layout but welcome your creative input.)
  • Manage and collaborate with our ecological restoration team to implement garden installations, including:
    • Ordering materials and coordinating deliveries
    • Site preparation, planting, mulching, watering, and seasonal maintenance
  • Assist with other ecological restoration projects, including:
    • Tree and shrub planting (various sizes)
    • Brush cutting and watering existing planting sites
    • Invasive species management using both mechanical and chemical methods
  • Marketing through farmers' markets and social media campaigns (some weekends required)

  • Strong knowledge of native plants in southern Ontario
  • Landscaping experience, particularly in pollinator-friendly garden installation and design
  • Valid G driver’s license with a clean driving record
