Job Summary
The GIS Technician will support a project focused on monitoring old growth forests in BC, Canada. This role involves analyzing satellite imagery and GIS data to identify areas of disturbance. The intern will gain mentorship in using spatial data and maps to verify forest conditions, review imagery, input data, and collaborate with the team to support environmental reporting and communications.
This project provides hands-on experience in GIS and remote sensing, and is ideal for applicants with an interest or background in forestry, landscape-level planning, or environmental monitoring. The role includes weekly remote check-in meetings with the project supervisor to review progress and receive guidance.
This role requires the use of ArcGIS Online for web mapping, and the applicant may be asked to support stand-alone mapping or analysis requests as needed. Strong attention to detail, organization, and clear communication are valued, and the position offers insight into practical workflows used in environmental consulting and forest management.
