Position: Senior Development Manager

The Riverwood Conservancy (TRC) is situated on a 150-acre urban nature preserve on the shores of the Credit River in central Mississauga. Our outdoor education, conservation, stewardship and horticulture programs support people of all cultures, ages, and abilities as they connect with nature within the beautiful natural setting of Riverwood Park.
Ideally with 5 – 7 years of experience, an affinity for The Riverwood Conservancy’s mission and a proven track record of success, the Senior Development Manager (SDM) will work closely with TRC’s staff and volunteers to reach ambitious but realistic goals. The successful candidate will be expected to be based from the office, with flexibility for periodic work from home.
Position Summary:
The Senior Development Manager is the sole full-time development staff member, who will report directly to the Executive Director. The position will work collaboratively with TRC’s program and operations staff to envision, plan, implement and manage relationships and events that enable TRC to achieve its vision of a community that lives in harmony with nature. As part of a “small shop”, the successful candidate will bring generalist fundraising knowledge with a mix of skills in prospect research, cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, membership development, database management and events experience.
Key Accountabilities:
1. Revenue Development
- Working with the Executive Director, Board of Directors and volunteers, supports the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of contributions from individuals and organizations
- Works directly on developing and advancing a prospect list using fund development best practices and moves management process.
- Participates and executes in ideation and writing of grants for specific projects and programs in collaboration with program and operations staff
- Maintains a system for identifying new funder and donor opportunities
- Builds a membership program that will generate revenue and create value for TRC members/supporters in alignment with other giving opportunities
- Monitors progress on fundraising and membership revenue
2. Donor/Member Relations and Stewardship
- Manages a wide range of donor/member recognition and retention activities that include a variety of channels
- Works with the team to create fresh and innovative donor engagement opportunities over multiple channels (e.g. events, customized video, social media, and others)
- Works with staff to develop compelling print and digital communications pieces that support fundraising efforts such as TRC’s semi-annual direct mail campaigns
- Works with the team to ensure timely and appropriate acknowledgement and donor appreciation, including maintaining accurate data, gift processing and highest level of communication
3. Systems and Policies
- Pulls reports and analyzes data to maintain appropriate and effective fundraising practices
- Supports the development and implementation of fundraising policies and procedures including database protocols
- Provides timely and required reporting to internal and external stakeholders.
4. Special Events
- Takes the lead on The Great Riverwood Hike, our annual fundraiser:
- With the Executive Director, Board Members and volunteers secures sponsorship and prizes
- Coordinates all event logistics including liaison with the City of Mississauga, supporters and other vendors as required to provide an outstanding experience.
- Solicits, trains and schedules volunteers to support participants on event day.
- With the team, develops peer-to-peer campaign platform and provides associated training and promotion
- Ensures that event participants are integrated into broader stewardship efforts moving forward.
- Plans and implements a small number of additional cultivation/recognition events throughout the year such as but not limited to Trail Blazers and Good Morning Mississauga (MBOT)
- Recruits event volunteers as appropriate and necessary
Qualifications
- University or college degree in fund development, communications or related field, or equivalent combination of related work experience and education
- 5-7 years of fundraising experience with an emphasis on face-to-face interactions
- Strong ability to take initiative, with tenacity to see projects through to completion
- Experience in volunteer recruitment, direct response campaigns, special events, database management
- Experience in developing a membership base in alignment with donor programs is considered an asset
- Understanding of and passion for The Riverwood Conservancy mission
- Demonstrated knowledge of effective fund development strategies and processes
- Experience with Raiser’s Edge NXT or similar donor management software and peer-to-peer fundraising platforms
- Strong interpersonal and presentation skills and the ability to tailor communication to specific audiences
- Strong problem solving and analytical skills
- Adept at time management, planning, prioritizing, multi-tasking and follow-through
- CFRE designation or commitment to working towards it would be considered an asset
- Current driver's license and access to a vehicle is required for travel within Mississauga/Peel Region
- Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends, as required

The annual salary range for this position is $70,000 - $75,000, commensurate with experience.
