Forest Schools, Outdoor Schools, Nature Schools

Position: Forest School Practitioner
School: Greenbelt Academy and Early Learning Centre
Location: Grimsby, near Hamilton, Ontario / Niagara Region

This position will be a supporting role working every Saturday from 930am-130pm at our Grimsby, ON location.

Requirements:

  • Forest school practitioner, degree in environmental sciences, outdoor education or equivalent experience working in an outdoor program.
  • CPR/ First Aid Certified
  • Vulnerable Sector Police Clearance (valid)
  • Reliable transportation

Objectives include but are not limited to:

  • Reading and facilitating the pedagogy as described in the Forest School Canada’s guide, FOREST AND NATURE SCHOOL IN CANADA: A Head, Heart, Hands Approach to Outdoor Learning.
  • Recognizing and responding to the needs of each child by using developmentally appropriate teaching and child behaviour management techniques.
  • Shows patience, positivity, and provides resolution oriented feedback when working with children and staff.
  • Demonstrating an above and beyond commitment to the development and safety of children in our care. Ensuring that you are familiar with and comfortable facilitating an environment that supports Risky play as described in the FOREST AND NATURE SCHOOL IN CANADA: A Head, Heart, Hands Approach to Outdoor Learning guide.
  • Plan, prepare, implement, and support a Nature Immersion/ Science-based program for our Nature Immersion Programs (Weekly Preschool, Kindergarten, Forest Friday and Forest Saturday).
  • Supporting a Nature Immersion/ Science -based curriculum that is stimulating, purposeful, age-appropriate, hands-on, interest-based, and encourages children’s Environmental Literacy, and whole child development. (creativity, social, emotional, cognitive and physical development.)
  • Participates and/or leads in the ongoing learning, reflection and development of children through intentional provocations, and documentation.
  • Responsible for contributing towards term newsletter for the Forest Saturday program.
  • Work in a collaborative and team-oriented manner, and maintain regular and open communication with partnered educator.
  • Enthusiasm with working outside in ALL weather.
  • Perform other duties as requested by the Director.
  • Build and maintain appropriate relationships with parents and support an open environment of communication regarding their child’s day.

Wage: TBD based on experience
