Summary:
Neighbours United is a community-driven charity that brings people together in rural, small, and suburban areas to support policies that help people & nature. Through strategic campaigns that use engagement organizing, deep canvassing, and communications, we are moving the needle in places often left out of progressive solutions. We aim to drive systemic change by engaging with broader audiences—including those who don’t already identify as environmentalists — to build widespread public support for lasting policies.
We’re seeking an experienced, energetic, and organized Executive Director to lead the organization’s current campaigns and operations, while developing new opportunities for expansion.
The ideal candidate is deeply experienced in organizing and campaigning using inclusive, distributed-leadership models, and has a successful track record of management, collaboration, fundraising, and program design.
About the position:
Reporting to the board of directors, you’ll be responsible for providing overall strategic and practical direction, as well as management for the organization. You’ll be starting from a stable position with current programming and funding; your strong leadership will be needed to maintain this trajectory and expand organizing programs and campaigns as opportunities emerge in 2025 and beyond. Neighbours United has offices, staff and campaigns in the BC interior, BC Lower Mainland, and in St. John’s, Newfoundland. Our mix of in-person and remote strategies means you’ll likely need to travel between 9 and 12 weeks a year to meet with teams and with funders, depending on where you live. And, of course, occasional evening and weekend work will be required. As part of leading and inspiring the senior management team, you’ll oversee and may deliver leadership and organizing training and coaching to all staff. You will extend your knowledge and strategic thinking throughout the organization to ensure campaigns follow best practices and are relevant to current contexts. We expect your time will be split approximately as follows: 40% fundraising, 50% running campaigns, 10% on operations.
More specifically, we expect you will:

Is this you?
If you have experience leading a charitable organization similar in size and complexity, ideally with an environmental purpose or that involves face-to-face campaigning, and want to join an organization on the frontlines of making a measurable difference, we'd love to hear from you!
