JOB POSTING | Black-led Environment & Climate Action

Position: Executive Director
Organization: Council of Canadians of African and Caribbean Heritage
Location: Work from home, Edmonton, Alberta

The Council of Canadians of African and Caribbean Heritage (CCACH) exists to undertake and support activities to enhance the social, economic and educational life of the African and Caribbean heritage communities. Website: ccach.org

The Executive Director is primarily responsible for the development, implementation and evaluation of programs at CCACH. This part-time position provides Program Management to the CCACH Tutoring, Afroquiz, and grant programs, as well as any future programs the organization will develop.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Project Management experience
  • Experience in the Not-For-Profit sector.
  • Proficient financial acumen, including experience in Fund Development and Revenue Generation
  • Business Analysis experience

Administration:

  • Manage all communications efforts, including traditional media, social media, written, and online publications, website, and marketing.
  • Ensure strong management of all systems. This includes technology, financial controls, accounting, human resources (HR), operations, stakeholder management, grant management, and legal/compliance.
  • Manage emails, manage calendar, attend meetings with community partners, board members, funders and employees, training sessions, communities of practice sessions.
  • Agenda creation, payment and funding review, monthly Executive Directors report development, review lead tutor hours, grant writing and reporting.

Board of Directors:

  • Work with the BOD on short and long-term policy creation and planning. These include capacity-building, fundraising, financial management, programs, board development, legal compliance and mission attainment.
  • Assist the board in any and all matters requested, within reason.
  • Prepare and present proposals and plans to the board for review, discussion andapproval with respect to any potential or new initiative that would help theorganization achieves its mission, vision and goals.

Program Management:

  • Fundraising - Be the Chief Fundraiser. Help the board with their giving pledges and develop the board finance committee. If possible, hire and lead a team of staff and volunteers to help with all fundraising activities (events, grants, earned income, planned-giving, individual, major, sustainer, and online giving) and more.
  • Supervise programs to ensure fitness, efficiency, and effectiveness. This includes program design, delivery methods and evaluation.

External Relations:

  • Serve as Chief Ambassador for the organization. Identify and lead organizational efforts to be represented at events, conferences, and coalitions, etc.
  • Explore and where feasible, build strategic partnerships that will advance the interests of the organization.

Supervision

  • Reviews proposed changes in program plans and agency procedures to determine compliance with AGLC and other regulatory requirements.
  • Supervise all staff, vendors, legal agreements, and contracts ranging from independent contractors, part or full-time staff, memos of understanding, etc.
  • Recruit and hire qualified staff and ensure proper screening

Financial management

  • Create an annual fund development plan linked to the operating budget, with clear targets and actions.
  • Oversee grant applications and reports as well as new grant funding opportunities.
  • Oversee program budgets and report on budgets and project status updates to relevant individuals.
  • Ensure strong financial management. This includes helping to create and maintain adherence to a budget. Produce regular accurate financial statements and ensure that the organization stays within budget parameters.
  • Identify funding programs for which the organization is eligible and supportapplications.
  • File for societies act certificate renewal, Insurance renewal, review terms of mailbox at beaver house, pay for space rental
  • Remain current on all CRA legislation and ethical practices pertaining to fundraising
  • Remain current with AGLC policies and reporting

Customer Service

  • Checks for satisfaction on the quality of services provided by CCACH programs, takes action to solve problems quickly.
  • Adheres to established standards of actively supporting the principles of CCACH education mandate.
