Environmental rehabilitation / restoration

Hiring: Aggregate Field Technician
Organization: The Ontario Aggregate Resources Corporation
Location: Hybrid: Work both in the field and from our Burlington office when not on assignment.

Join TOARC as an Aggregate Field Technician

Make a tangible impact on Ontario’s landscapes

The Ontario Aggregate Resources Corporation (TOARC) is seeking Aggregate Field Technicians to assist with data collection and site assessments as part of our commitment to responsible resource management. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to environmental rehabilitation and participate in communicating the end use of sites after extraction, all while working in a dynamic, field-based role.

About TOARC

As the trustee under the Aggregate Resources Act, TOARC fulfills multiple responsibilities, including:

  • Collecting and publishing industry data to enhance transparency.
  • Managing the rehabilitation of abandoned aggregate properties across Ontario through the Management of Abandoned Aggregate Properties (MAAP) program.

Since its inception, MAAP has restored over 900 hectares of land—fully funded by industry contributions—making Ontario’s landscapes safer, healthier, and more productive.

Position Overview

As an Aggregate Field Technician, you will play a key role in maintaining and updating TOARC’s Surrendered Site Reporting and Mapping Tool and MAAP Online Reporting Tool (MORT), which provide the public with access to aggregate site data.

Key responsibilities include:

Field Assessments – Locating and inventorying former pits and quarries (both legacy and surrendered sites).
Landowner Engagement – Establishing relationships with landowners to discuss site conditions and TOARC’s rehabilitation programs.
Data Collection & Analysis – Updating geographic and environmental data within TOARC’s public databases.
Program Outreach – Educating landowners on the MAAP program, including rehabilitation processes, site selection criteria, and regulatory considerations.

This role requires extensive travel throughout Ontario and independent outreach to landowners, including cold calling. When not in the field, work will be based out of TOARC’s Burlington, ON, office.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Completed or currently enrolled in a post-secondary program in environmental science, geography, landscape architecture, ecology, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; familiarity with GIS and AutoCAD is an asset.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; experience in sales or outreach is an asset.
  • Self-motivated with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently.
  • Willingness to travel extensively and initiate contact with landowners.
  • Valid G-Class driver’s license and eligibility to rent commercial vehicles.

Why Join TOARC?

TOARC is committed to being an equal opportunity employer, fostering a positive and inclusive work environment where all employees feel valued and supported. We welcome and encourage applications from people with disabilities, and accommodations are available upon request for candidates throughout the selection process.
