Location: This is a hybrid position that involves a combination of desk work that can occur at home, and facilitating workshops in person. Our preference is to hire a candidate in Metro Vancouver however the position could be remote.

Be The Change Earth Alliance (BTCEA) is a bold, agile and creative charitable organization founded in 2005 with a mission to support global sustainability through education that empowers personal and collective change. We have engaging programs for adults in the community and workplace as well as for students in middle and secondary schools. Our flagship program, Student Leadership for Change (SLC), consists of learning resources that have been developed collaboratively with teachers and used in hundreds of classrooms across BC. We augment SLC by providing education-in-action workshops for students and Professional Development workshops for teachers. The SLC holistic approach covers a full spectrum of ways participants can ‘be the change’ to address global issues, from individual, school and community actions to political advocacy.

About the Job

The Operation and Program Coordinator will work collaboratively with the BTCEA staff team to support on a range of tasks including website maintenance and updating, administrative functions and program delivery.

This is a highly collaborative, team-based role and work environment. This role will be split between 60% website and administration and 40% educational programming. We are looking for an organized person with experience and understanding of website maintenance and a passionate for environmental justice programming. As a key member of a small, collaborative staff team, the incumbent will also work to support other BTCEA initiatives, which are considerably interwoven.

The incumbent will lead with updating and maintaining BTCEA websites. We have 2 main websites; our public facing website to highlight our mission, values and initiatives and our learning resource site accessible through a login meant for educators and students. The incumbent will also support BTCEA on general administration tasks. Specific roles and responsibilities include:

  • Creating new webpages for new initiatives
  • Trouble shooting user issues with our websites
  • Scheduling and formatting newsletters
  • General website maintenance
  • Designing and formatting reports and learning resources
  • Designing and formatting webpages
  • Creating graphic designs for the website, communication materials and educational materials
  • Monitoring the admin email and responding the questions

The incumbent will also support the Education and Grant Coordinator to deliver BTCEA educational workshop programs, in Metro Vancouver, BC. In Metro Vancouver, our workshops include Water is Life, a 2-part workshop program focused on freshwater issues, climate action, and social justice; and Youth Habitat Clean-ups, which engage students in improving the ecology of local parks and shorelines. Specific roles and responsibilities include:

  • Co-managing logistics, scheduling, communication and outreach for workshops
  • Designing and adapting the student workshops
  • Delivering workshops to participating youth classrooms and groups, in-person and via Zoom
  • Collaborating with other staff and volunteers to coordinate and deliver professional development opportunities for teachers
  • Monitoring and evaluating the impact of the initiatives
  • Helping ensure our programs centre equity and social justice, and integrate intersectional perspectives

In all the tasks above, the incumbent will be able to build on BTCEA’s existing work and will receive ample support from other BTCEA staff. The incumbents will not require a previous mastery of the role’s responsibilities to succeed; rather, we are looking for candidates with an interest or passion in this work who possess some of the key assets and qualifications below. Although we have a preference for someone with experience and interest in both operations and programing please still consider applying even if you only have experience in one of the roles listed above (website/admin or educational programing). Prior academic or professional experience is valued but not a requirement. Folks from equity-seeking groups, including Black, Indigenous and People of Colour, are encouraged to apply.

This is a full-time, 32 hour per week position at a wage between $23.00-$25.00/hour (plus 2 weeks of annual vacation and 2 weeks paid vacation off for winter break). This is a 12-month contract position, starting as soon as possible and concluding at the end of October, 2025 (with possible extension based on available funding). Benefits include being added to BTCEA health benefit plan under 50% coverage from BTCEA, 5-10 sick days per year, and a flexible work schedule. This is a hybrid position that involves a combination of desk work that can occur at home, and facilitating workshops in person. Our preference is to hire a candidate in Metro Vancouver however the position could be remote.

A valid driver's licence for Canada and access to a car to drive to in-person workshops in the region is an asset but not required. This position may be partially funded by a federal government youth wage subsidy (see eligibility criteria below).

Qualifications

  • Genuine interest or passion in BTCEA’s work, values, approach
  • Experience or education with website maintenance and updates
  • Comfort with technology and tech support
  • Experience with administration and operations
  • Organized, detail-oriented with strong time-management skills to set and meet deadlines
  • Experience with project oversight and management
  • Experience with outreach, relationship building and communications
  • Strong written communication – clear and concise writing (folks for whom English is NOT their first language are still highly encouraged to apply)

Assets

  • Strong workshop facilitation and presentation skills
  • Confidence working with youth aged 11-18
  • Lived or professional experience that could inform weaving social justice and intersectional perspective into BTCEA’s work
  • Experience in creating curriculum materials and/or designing education programs
  • Experience with monitoring and evaluation and/or impact assessment
  • Collaborative worker – skilled and comfortable working closely with others
  • Education or employment background in anti-oppression or intersectionality
  • Self-motivated, creative, and positive, with a ‘can-do’ willingness to learn
  • Kind, empowering and glad-to-help others team player
  • Experience taking action related to the climate, environment, and social justice
  • Organized, detail oriented, with strong time-management skills to set and meet deadlines
  • Fundraising experience
  • Initiative - self-starter who can take initiative, but also knows when to ask questions and for support
  • Familiarity with digital tools such as Slack, Google Drive, Monday.com and Microsoft Office
  • Experience with HTML
  • Experience with graphic design software such as Canva
  • Experience with Microsoft suite
  • Experience with Publishing
  • Experience with Adobe
  • Experience with Nationbuilder

Youth Wage Subsidy - Eligibility Requirements

This position may be partially funded by a youth wage subsidy, offered by the federal government to employers hiring youth who meet these criteria:

  • Be between 15 and 30 years (inclusive) of age
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada
  • Legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial legislation and regulations
  • Not receiving Employment Insurance (EI) benefits
  • Not currently enrolled in full-time post-secondary studies
