CAMPAIGN MANAGER

Title: Affordable Electric Homes Campaign Manager

Neighbours United is a non-profit community-driven organization that brings together local residents to protect the natural environment while building just, equitable, healthy, and livable communities. Neighbours United coordinates hundreds of volunteers and outreaches to rural, small town and suburban residents each year to build sustainable communities and defend nature.

Neighbours United is the first group in Canada to develop a deep engagement canvass program, and the first group anywhere to complete a long-term deep canvass on climate and energy. Deep engagement canvassing, or deep canvassing, is a transformational practice for having vulnerable, emotional, and nonjudgmental conversations that decrease polarization and move people to become more in favour of an issue.

Reporting to the Organizing Director, and working with staff, the Affordable Electric Homes Campaign Manager will organize non-partisan community engagement on our Affordable Electric Homes campaigns and engagement organizing around the lower mainland of BC. The Affordable Electric Homes Campaign Manager will lead efforts to build a paid canvasser team to build support on current campaign issues and lead deep canvassing and other organizing-based strategies and tactics.

At minimum, travel will be required to participate in, train and lead deep canvass programs around Coquitlam, as well as annual travel to organizational team activities.

Responsibilities:

  • Community Engagement and Canvassing:
    • Engage in deep canvassing conversations with community members, attending events quarterly.
    • Organize non-partisan community engagement on Affordable Electric Homes campaigns.
    • Lead and coach paid canvasser teams to achieve a 30% persuasion rate and maintain an 83% retention rate.
    • Maintain relationships with existing partners and identify new organizations for collaboration,
    • Continue to build a relationship with the Kwikwetlem Indigenous Peoples.
  • Campaign Management:
    • Develop and communicate campaign goals and timelines, adjusting as necessary.
    • Implement organizing strategies and tactics based on Marshall Gantt’s organizing framework.
    • Report on and evaluate campaign progress against goals.
    • Keep updated with campaign-related news and communicate timely updates.
    • Accomplish directives efficiently and communicate when adjustments are needed.
  • Staff Support and Development:
    • Supervise and support staff, including recruitment, hiring, and onboarding.
    • Conduct training and workshops for staff and Board members.
    • Document program learnings and develop new training programs for staff development.
  • Organizational Representation and Fundraising:
    • Represent the organization as an ambassador, embodying its values and mission.
    • Participate in organizational fundraising and budget management.
    • Contribute to organizational planning and participate in staff activities.
    • Foster an inclusive and diverse work environment, ensuring all voices are heard and valued.
  • Administration and Documentation:
    • Track and manage relationships using the organizational database.
    • Track and record expenses, ensuring accurate financial reporting.

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Experience and Skills:
    • Six months of experience in engagement organizing, distributed leadership/snowflake model, community organizing, campaigning, canvassing, volunteer management, and/or leading trainings and developing training content.
    • Management experience, including supervising staff and developing team members.
    • Experience with budgeting and developing work plans.
    • Experience with social work, crisis support, or trauma-informed care is preferred.
    • Proficiency with Keela, CallHub, Google Sheets or Excel, and other Google workspace tools.
    • Fluent in English; additional language proficiency is preferred.
  • Interpersonal and Communication:
    • Strong interpersonal, conflict resolution, and communication skills.
    • Comfortable engaging with people holding diverse viewpoints and listening without judgment.
    • Ability to work effectively with diverse people and organizations.
    • Demonstrated commitment and passion for environmental justice and its intersections.
    • Willingness to share vulnerable experiences from your life.
    • Enthusiastic about learning, taking risks, and willing to make mistakes in the process.
    • Emotional resilience during work hours is essential.
    • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills.
  • Practical Requirements:
    • Accurately record results of conversations in a data tracking database and contribute to team debriefs to support learning from canvass interactions.
    • Ability to work evenings and weekends as required for successful community organizing once the program launches.
    • Access to reliable transportation (public or private).
    • Self-starter with proven initiative.
    • Legally entitled to work in Canada.
    • Ability to navigate and adapt to changing environments.
