Ecological farming, Certified naturally grown

Hiring: Farmer
Farm: Button Brook Farm
Location: Bridgetown, Annapolis Valley, Nova Scotia

Calling all farmers! We're looking for a farmer to join our team this season (now through December). For the right person, this would transition into a supervisory role (fall 2025 or spring 2026), and, for the right person, a co-management position with responsibilities growing with experience beginning as early as 2027.

Button Brook Farm is a growing operation, focussed on high-volume year-round ecological salad greens production for wholesale markets from the Annapolis Valley to the HRM. We have prioritized scalability in our infrastructure development. We have a clean and well-run packhouse, soon to be certified under Canada GAP, multiple greenhouses, and a tractor-based production system. We keep careful records and constantly improve our systems in terms of both efficiency and quality. We are also Certified Naturally Grown.

Some previous experience and a demonstrably deep passion for farm work/life specifically is key. More generally, the successful candidate is energetic and happy to work physically at a steady pace in a variety of weather conditions, including heat, occasional wet weather and some winter harvest in the greenhouses. The right person is zesty, but nice. Easy going even at high speeds. Relaxed when things are action-packed. They show up, day in and day out, but also communicate needs and shortcomings. The right person is sharp, but curious and willing to try. Half superhero and half humble. Ready to take the lead after learning the ropes.

We know it's a lot to ask, but we know you're out there!

Compensation will be commensurate with experience and capability, including a productivity bonus system. We'll begin with an hourly rate and seasonal contract, before continuing to a permanent salaried position for the proven person.

We don't have accommodation on the farm, and we are therefore seeking someone local or in a position move locally.

To apply, send your cover letter and resume to paul@buttonbrookfarm.ca , with the subject "I'm your farmer".
