Position: Digital Engagement and Marketing Manager
Organization: Oceana Canada
Location: Remote, flexible in office days if located in Halifax, Toronto, or Ottawa

  • Type: Temporary fixed-term contract
  • Reports to: Director of Digital and Campaign Communications
  • Expected start date: April 2025 to May 2026
  • Pay Range: $33.65-$36.06 hourly

Summary

Oceana Canada was established as an independent charity in 2015 and is part of the largest international advocacy group dedicated solely to ocean conservation. Oceana Canada has successfully campaigned to end the shark fin trade, make rebuilding depleted fish populations the law, improve the way fisheries are managed and protect marine habitat.

Canada has the longest coastline in the world, with an ocean surface area of 7.1 million square kilometres, or 70 per cent of its landmass. Oceana Canada believes that Canada has a national and global obligation to manage our natural resources responsibly and help ensure a sustainable source of protein for the world’s growing population.

Oceana Canada works with civil society, academics, fishers, Indigenous Peoples and the federal government to return Canada’s formerly vibrant oceans to health and abundance. By restoring Canada’s oceans, we can strengthen our communities, reap greater economic and nutritional benefits, and protect our future.

Principal duties

The Digital Engagement and Marketing Manager is responsible for Oceana Canada’s email and digital advocacy. Providing strategic oversight and project management while ensuring timely and effective outreach to supporters. Helping the organization achieve digital growth, engagement, and fundraising goals. This position will also lead the communication planning and implementation of tactics for a campaign to address plastic pollution in the ocean through reducing single-use plastics.

Responsibilities

Digital engagement

  • Manage Oceana Canada’s email and digital advocacy platform (Engaging Networks):
  • Lead on account updates, optimizations and implementing new features and processes.
  • Manage vendor relationships.
  • Build and deploy emails and supporter actions.
  • Develop and optimize customized marketing automations.
  • Track and report on metrics.
  • Manage and track engagement profiles, optimizing subscriber list health.
  • Conduct A/B testing to increase conversions, including donations.
  • Knowledge transfer experience, designing briefing and how-to documents.
  • Create digital content, including blogs and social media, to drive engagement and channel growth.

Grassroots advocacy and digital fundraising

  • Plan and execute digital fundraising campaigns.
  • Develop and deploy grassroot donor communications.
  • Lead strategies for advocacy campaigns to engage, steward and grow Oceana Canada’s digital community.

Campaigns

  • Lead communications for plastics campaign. Develop and implement communications plans and manage budgets in coordination with campaign lead to achieve goals and milestones. Coordinate the implementation of campaign communication tactics.
  • Support across all other campaigns as needed by campaign and communications lead, including content creation for email, web, and social media.

Qualifications

  • Degree in digital marketing, communications or related field, or comparable work experience.
  • Three to five years of digital marketing experience.
  • High proficiency in email marketing (Engaging Networks preferred).
  • One or more years of project management experience.
  • Strong understanding of digital fundraising and donor stewardship.
  • Excellent analytical skills, experience with analysis and reporting.
  • Expertise in content creation and design.
  • Creative problem-solver with well-developed organizational skills.
  • Extensive experience collaborating with cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent verbal and written communicator, skilled in presenting concepts, editing and proofreading.
  • Interests include advocacy and change-making.
  • French language proficiency an asset.
  • Working knowledge of HTML.
