Hiring: Milton Summer Farmers' Market – Director

The Milton Chamber of Commerce is a not-for-profit, membership-based organization representing over 700 member businesses and individuals.

This is a unique and dynamic opportunity to gain experience in both an office environment and supporting local farmers and artisans! Your primary responsibility is to ensure the efficient and safe operation of the Farmers’ Market. Duties include preparing for the Market, all administrative tasks related to the Market, liaising with Vendors and the Town as required, and representing the Chamber at the Market each Saturday. You will also assist with general office duties as required.

We require the Market Director to be available Saturday mornings from 6:00am – 12:30pm from May 18th to October 12th.

Duties

  • Coordinate the allocation of vendor spaces
  • Inventory supplies and order as needed;
  • Oversee the weekly set-up, operation and shut-down of the Milton Farmers' Market;
  • Ensure the Market site is clean at the end of each Market day;
  • Work with food and agricultural vendors, charity and non-profit organizations, and Craft vendors to respond to questions and concerns;
  • Develop Market promotions, including social media and website, as directed by the Milton Chamber of Commerce;
  • Provide customer service to consumers at the Market;
  • Supervise volunteers and maintain equipment;
  • Ensure safety standards are maintained;
  • Promote Milton to visitors attending the Market and make them feel welcome
  • Administrative tasks related to the Market,
  • Liaise with Vendors and the Town as required
  • Troubleshoot problems
  • Support Chamber staff in office duties where necessary
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Customer service oriented with strong communications skills
  • Experience dealing with public
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Flexibility and creativity
  • Experience in troubleshooting
  • Farmer’s market experience an asset
  • Logistics and event planning an asset
  • Punctuality essential
  • Ability to be on-site Saturday mornings from 6:00am – 12:30pm each week
  • Strong independent worker who can stay motivated

This position is dependent on funding through the federal Canada Summer Jobs Grant program and requires the successful candidate to:

  • be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment
  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment
  • have a valid Social Insurance Number and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations

Hours: 35/week (includes Saturday mornings)

Note: This position requires the Farmers’ Market Director to be on-site every Saturday at 6:00 am to prepare the Market for opening. The Director must stay on-site until Market cleanup is complete at approximately 12:30 pm.

Pay: $19/hr
