The Salt Spring Centre of Yoga is a non-profit spiritual centre and yoga community located on beautiful Salt Spring Island on the west coast of Canada. Inspired by our teacher, master yogi Baba Hari Dass, we’ve been sharing the teachings of yoga and hosting retreats for over 40 years, beginning in 1981. The work of the Centre is based on the foundation of karma yoga, working together with the attitude of selfless service. We do many things here at the Centre, but the underlying aim is the attainment of peace.

We are currently inviting applications for the positions of Lead Cook & Support Cook in the Centre’s kitchen for the 2025 season. The Lead Cook works together with the Kitchen Manager and others on the kitchen team in preparing and serving nutritious and delicious vegetarian meals to varying numbers of people, ranging from 30 up to 300 in our peak season. Those with demonstrated skill and leadership experience in the kitchen may be offered more autonomy in meal planning for the residential community or creating new products for our farmstand, etc.

These jobs are part time and seasonal, scheduled primarily to support specific programs each month (March - October). The work schedule may vary according to the program being served and the needs of the Centre community. The hours may increase during the height of our summer season and into the fall, when more programs are scheduled.

We are looking for people who have experience cooking for groups of people, with a focus on vegetarian meals, have Food Safe certification, are comfortable following recipes, and enjoy working as part of a team in a spiritual community. Previous kitchen staff have said it's been the best and most relaxed / harmonious kitchen they have ever worked in, and they appreciate the opportunity to interact directly with the guests and volunteers they are cooking for.

Our on-site staff accomodation is limited, but it may be an option for the right candidates. If you are interested in joining our multigenerational residential community, please indicate this in your application. Those who join our residential community are asked to commit to engaging with others in a positive and harmonious way, keep a clean and sober environment (no alcohol or drugs on the property), and abide by the lacto-vegetarian guidelines while on the property. More details about our residential agreements can be provided during the interview process.
