Greater Victoria Green Team (GVGT) Program Manager
- Full-time: 40 hours per week. This role requires flexibility. While much of the planning and coordination occurs on weekdays, our activities primarily happen on weekends.
- Location: Various areas across Greater Victoria and virtual. Successful applicants must live or intend to live in the Greater Victoria region.
- Salary: $55,000 per annum
- Term: Full-time position, ideal start date Saturday May 10, 2025
- Expected in-person/virtual work ratio: Around 15-20% in-person & 80-85% virtual

Green Teams of Canada (GTC) is a charity founded in 2013. Our mission is to connect, build, and empower diverse communities through hands-on activities that enhance health, well-being, and environmental stewardship. Our programs enable individuals to:

Who We Are Looking For
We are seeking an individual with a unique skill set to be an effective community organizer and elevate our program to the next level. The ideal candidate will possess the following qualities:

Key Responsibilities
The majority of time (approximately 90%) will be dedicated to tasks related to running GVGT activities. The GVGT currently runs 50+ activities per year (expected to grow) across the region, most of which take place on weekends between March-June and September-November.

Activity Leadership & Community Engagement (90%)
Activity Planning & Execution:
- Plan and lead 50+ environmental stewardship activities with and without additional staff
- Deliver engaging environmental education and hands-on instruction
- Foster a fun, welcoming and inclusive environment for all participants
- Supervise large groups of community members to ensure safety and quality
- Conduct site visits to assess safety and suitability
- Purchase and transport necessary tools, supplies and refreshments
- Manage and organize tool inventory and storage unit
- Set up and pack up activity sites safely and efficiently
- Implement safety protocols (e.g. providing safety glasses, adhering to policies, safely disposing of needles with waste pickers and providing first aid when needed etc.)
- Capture 50+ high quality photos and 2+ videos per activity
- Collect and track participation and environmental impact data
- Administer and assess participant satisfaction surveys
- Maintain accurate records in Salesforce for all program activities
- Document activity site transformation with before/after documentation
- Write personalized volunteer letters
- Respond promptly and professionally to participant inquiries
- Design, develop and implement new activities
- Improve current activities
- Supervise staff who will help with leading and supporting activities
Outreach & Visibility:
- Implement strategic and creative outreach to attract diverse participants
- Build outreach database
- Create engaging content for and manage social media accounts (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter/X, TikTok)
- Write compelling activity reports (blogs) within 32 hours of each event
- Serve as a media spokesperson and distribute press releases
- Respond to participant inquiries promptly and professionally
- Contribute activity content to newsletters, social media, and other communications
- Design signage to enhance activities
Partnerships:
- Ensure partner recognition during activities and in communications
- Maintain strong relationships with partners through regular communication
- Communicate with staff to ensure partner needs are met
- Support staff in creating partnership proposals and pitching them
- Prepare impact reports and timely invoices
- Secure in-kind contributions
Administration & Other Tasks (10%)
- Create and maintain daily task lists, timesheet and timely expense reports
- Participate in check-ins, address capacity challenges and prioritize efforts
- Contribute insights to organizational policies and processes
- Support broader revenue generation, including grants and individual donor initiatives
- Build and improve training materials for running activities
- Assess and contribute to improving evaluation systems/processes and integrating them into GTC’s database management system (Salesforce)
- Support with the hiring and training of other staff as needed
- Perform other related duties as required by supervising staff
Requirements
Successful applicants must:
- Be legally eligible to work in Canada
- Live in (or planning to relocate to) Greater Victoria
- Have a valid class 5 drivers license and access to a vehicle (personal or car-share)
- Be willing to complete a Vulnerable Persons Criminal Records Check
- Be able to lift and move tools, tents, and tables (up to 50 lbs)
- Be willing and able to store refreshments for community members in your home
Skills & Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in a related field (e.g., environmental science, education, communications, event planning)
- Three years of experience in community organizing or event planning
- Energized by interacting and networking with new people
- Strong organizational, project, and time management skills
- Digitally savvy with a variety of social media platforms
- Demonstrated ability to speak in front of groups and lead/teach diverse community members
- Ability to assess program effectiveness using both quantitative data (e.g., number of community members engaged, amount of invasive plants removed) and qualitative data (e.g., impact stories)
- Experience using online/virtual tools and apps (e.g., G-Suite, Excel, Zoom, Salesforce, Canva)
- Ability to build and sustain timely, effective, and professional interpersonal relationships
- Actively seeks growth, welcomes feedback, and turns challenges into learning opportunities
- Ability to take constructive feedback and use it as an opportunity for growth
- Outgoing and able to connect easily with people and make them feel welcome and heard
- Takes initiative, solves problems, and does not wait to be told what to do
- Thrives working independently while also lifting up those around you
