Position: Communications & Marketing Manager
Organization: Community Forests International
Location: Flexible - Remote or in-person (within 4 hours of Atlantic Time Zone). Optional office space available in Sackville, New Brunswick. Occasional travel may be required for team meetings and events.

  • Position: Communications & Marketing Manager
  • Location: Flexible - Remote or in-person (within 4 hours of Atlantic Time Zone). Optional office space available in Sackville, New Brunswick. Occasional travel may be required for team meetings and events.
  • Hours & Term: Full-time (37.5 hours/week), with a 1-year annually renewable contract and potential for indefinite term.
  • Compensation: Competitive salary range of $50,000 - $55,000 negotiable based on experience. Benefits package including paid vacation, holidays, health bursary, and sick leave.

Job Description:

The Communications & Marketing Manager will be responsible for developing and implementing communication strategies to support our mission and engage our community. You will oversee various communication channels, and lead content development for our growing audience across our website, social media, email newsletters, and more. The ideal candidate will come with strong writing and communication skills. They are creative, strategic, and dedicated to advancing environmental sustainability, climate action, and justice through storytelling.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Communications Strategy & Management:

  • Leverage existing organizational strengths and approaches to develop, direct, and implement a Digital Communications strategy and plan in close collaboration with the Executive Director and Program Director.
  • Champion the Community Forests brand, including our mission, vision, and values and ensure all outward communications uphold and strengthen Community Forests’ brand and voice.
  • Maintain a communications calendar and schedule, providing final quality assurance on communication outputs.
  • Work with external contractors on communications outputs, including but not limited to project partners, social media creators, journalists, and independent content creators.
  • Actively seek out and manage marketing opportunities to increase Community Forests’ brand recognition.

2. Stories & Community:

  • Write compelling content for digital platforms, including social media, website, and monthly email newsletters.
  • Work collaboratively with all team members in Canada and Zanzibar to facilitate storytelling and content generation from various programs and projects.

3. Digital Design Work

  • Create compelling graphics for digital platforms, including social media, website, and newsletters.
  • Design project and/or campaign materials such as the Annual Report, project reports, and other project-specific communications materials.

4. Fundraising & Campaigns:

  • Collaborate with the development team on fundraising concepts, key messages, and campaign development.
  • Draft fundraising campaign emails, and social media posts, and design campaign materials as needed; including but not limited to posters, flyers, fundraising packages, etc.

5. Systems and Platforms:

  • Maintain digital platforms including CRM platforms (Keela and MailChimp), website (WordPress), and Google Accounts.

Qualifications:

Candidates without a bachelor’s degree or diploma are asked to illustrate their relevant work or volunteer experience for this role. 3+ years of work experience in communications, marketing, or other related functions is preferred.

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 3+ years of experience in communications, preferably with non-profits, benefit corporations, or other social purpose companies.
  • Strong writing, digital design, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in web management tools (WordPress), social media platforms (Meta, LinkedIn, X, and YouTube), and design software (Canva or Adobe preferred.)
  • Proficiency in CRM and DRM platforms (Keela or equivalent, MailChimp.)
  • Commitment to environmental sustainability, equity, and social justice.
