Position: Digital Content Specialist
Organization: Green Communities Canada
Location: Remote, anywhere in Canada. Must be able to work within GCC’s core working hours of 11:30am-3:30pm EST

At Green Communities Canada (GCC), our work moves beyond the question ‘why’ and focuses on collaborative solutions to the challenge of ‘how’. GCC has been leading a community-based climate action movement for more than 25 years, working together with our members from across the country to advance transformative, equitable, and lasting change. As a membership-based organization, our mission is to connect community-based climate action groups through a national network to share resources, co-design innovative programming, and elevate the collective impact of GCC members. GCC’s current program areas of focus are home energy efficiency, green infrastructure, sustainable mobility, and equity, diversity and inclusion.

The Position

Green Communities Canada seeks a Digital Content Specialist (DCS) to join our Communications Team. The DCS will report directly to the Communications Manager. The DCS will work alongside our Communications Team to support the creation, adaptation, optimization, and publishing of content on our new website.

The DCS has the exciting opportunity to shape Green Communities Canada’s online content and user experiences for years to come. The DCS will use their familiarity with WordPress and online content principles to assess and consolidate our existing legacy content, optimizing and publishing it on our new website.

Key Responsibilities

This position will lead activities focused on the following themes:

  • Optimization of Content: This position will lead the optimization of existing web content in alignment with templates, goals, and user experience demands of our new website.
  • Consolidation and Creation of Web Content: This position will work across GCC's program areas and our generous collections of legacy and out-dated content to identify and execute opportunities for consolidating content info highly effective resources on our new website.
  • Execution of Communications Activities: This position will work across GCC's programs to assist with key communications activities, such as copywriting, graphic design, data collection, and analysis, and other forms of content creation and analysis.

Qualifications, Skills & Abilities:

  • Excellent communications skills (both verbal and written)
  • Experience creating, adapting, and publishing content on websites
  • Experience working with WordPress websites
  • Experience adapting existing content to perform well in specific web templates/forms with specific goals and audiences in mind
  • Competency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience with tracking communications activities
  • Graphic design abilities using Canva and/or Adobe Suite is an asset
  • Some desktop publishing abilities
  • Comfort communicating via e-mail, virtual/video meetings, and telephone
  • Well organized, manages time effectively, and has strong attention to detail
  • Enjoys working independently and as part of a collaborative team
  • Positive and community-minded environmentalist
  • Familiarity with our program areas is an asset
  • Currently enrolled or recently graduated from a college or university program for Communications, Environmental Studies, or a related field
