YCCBC is looking for an Assistant Director of Programs to provide day-to-day leadership and operational oversight for our Youth Climate Corps teams across BC. Position Status Full-time, 2-year contract
Salary: $77,000 annually
Job Summary:
In alignment with YCCBC values, the Assistant Director provides strategic day-to-day oversight and operational leadership for the Youth Climate Corps (YCC) programs across multiple locations across the province of British Columbia. This role is responsible for supervising and mentoring Program Leads, fostering program alignment with organizational goals, and driving impactful climate action initiatives and career skill development. The Assistant Director plays a key role in program implementation, program evaluation, and partnership development while ensuring compliance, risk management, youth development, and effective resource allocation.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Leadership and Team Management:
- Supervise and mentor Program Leads, ensuring alignment with YCCBC’s values, goals, and operational standards by supporting teams in building a positive working culture.
- Facilitate regular check-ins, performance reviews, and professional development opportunities for Program Leads.
- Foster a culture of safety, inclusion, belonging, collaboration, innovation, and equity across program teams.
- Support Program Leads in building strong teams and navigating challenges in team dynamics.
- Act as the primary escalation point for complex challenges encountered by Program Leads.
- Ensures a positive working environment for all YCCBC staff and partners while facilitating conflict resolution as needed.

Program Development and Strategy:
- Supports the Program Director in the strategic planning and development of YCCBC programming to align with organizational and community priorities.
- Collaborate with the Director of Programs and Program Leads to design and evaluate projects and programs.
- Identify and implement opportunities for cross-program collaboration and knowledge sharing.
Operational Oversight:
- Oversee efficient program operations across all locations, ensuring proper resource allocation, scheduling, and compliance with employment standards and health and safety regulations.
- Monitor program performance and outcomes, providing regular updates to the Director of Programs.
- Support Program Leads in maintaining high standards for project management, health and safety, and risk mitigation.
- Ensure compliance with organizational policies and WorkSafeBC standards across all sites.
- Problem-solve with creativity and efficiency as unanticipated challenges arise.
Partnership Development and Community Engagement:
- Build and maintain positive relationships with community partners, Indigenous rights holders, and stakeholders to support program initiatives.
- Positively represent YCCBC at community events, partner meetings, and other external engagements.
- Act as the go-to contact for lead program partners as we collaboratively navigate opportunities and challenges in programs across the province.
- Collaborate with partners to identify meaningful opportunities for youth-led climate action projects.
Fund Development and Financial Management:
- Identify funding opportunities and work with a team to support or lead grant writing proposals.
- Oversee budgets for all program locations, ensuring responsible financial management and reporting.

- Personal values and commitment to climate action, social justice, anti-racism / anti-oppression, diversity, inclusion, reconciliation and decolonization.
- Awareness of one's own lived experience of systemic barriers or privilege, and how that shapes your unique contribution to strategic social change.
- Flexibility to work a variety of hours to accommodate projects that may take place outside of regular business hours including evenings and weekends.
- The legal authority to work in Canada.
- Being a resident of BC or having familiarity with various BC communities will be considered an asset.
Experience, skills, and attributes:
- Extensive Leadership Experience: Proven track record in leading and mentoring teams, including multi-location or multi-program oversight, through team dynamic challenges
- Program Management Expertise: Strong background in designing, implementing, and evaluating multiple and overlapping complex programs or initiatives.
- Strategic Thinking: Ability to align program goals with broader organizational strategies and community needs.
- Problem-Solving and Decision-Making: Demonstrated ability to navigate complex challenges, make informed decisions, and provide guidance under pressure.
- Proficient Communicator: Strong written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking, grant writing and reporting, partnership engagement, facilitation and conflict transformation.
- Partnership Development: Skilled in building and maintaining strong relationships with diverse partners, including community organizations and Indigenous rights holders.
- Organizational Skills: Exceptional ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, and complex operational logistics across diverse communities effectively.
- Financial Acumen: Experience in budget management and oversight, grant reporting, and strategic resource allocation.
- Technical Proficiency: Confident in using G-Suite, Microsoft Office, and project management tools.
Additional Requirements:
- Flexibility to work some varied hours, including evenings and weekends, to accommodate programs’ needs.
- Ability to travel to multiple program sites throughout BC as required.
Working Conditions
- Home Office Environment - this role is primarily situated in the employee’s home office workspace with occasional travel throughout BC to meetings or events.
