Climate Action Specialist (Three Year Term)

Join the Climate Action & Environmental Stewardship Department and contribute to the strategic leadership for the City of Kelowna’s climate action and natural environment objectives. This role involves leading and coordinating the implementation of the City’s Climate Resilient Kelowna Strategy in collaboration with relevant City departments, local interest holders, and community members. The Climate Action Specialist will be responsible for developing and implementing engagement programs to facilitate low-emission resilient behaviors at the individual and household level.

Expertise in municipal strategies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, enhance community resilience to climate hazards, principles of community-based social marketing, and proficiency in writing detailed reports as well as conducting data and policy analysis will be essential.  

You have at least five years’ relevant experience and a degree in resource management, sustainability, environmental studies, environmental science, climate change, planning, public policy, business, engineering or a related field.  One or more of the following additional accreditations is also desirable: Graduate degree in public policy, sustainability, resource management, engineering, or a related business field; Registered Professional Engineer; Registered Professional Planner; and/or Sustainable Energy Management. Core competencies include leadership community engagement, diplomacy, technical expertise, communication, decision making and risk analysis.
