Position: Director of Regional Pathways
Organization: The Transition Accelerator
Location: anywhere in Canada

The Transition Accelerator is a charity dedicated to solving Canada’s business and social challenges while moving Canada down viable pathways to a competitive, net-zero emissions economy by 2050. The Accelerator is seeking a motivated individual who wants to help drive the advancement of the organization’s mandate.

We work with partners ranging from Indigenous groups, governments, industry, and civil society to co-create practical visions of what we think the future could look like, then build pathways to these new futures. About the Role

Reporting to the Vice President, the Director of Regional Pathways will:

  • Building on the success of the Accelerator’s national Net-Zero Decision Support Tool, develop and lead the execution of Regional Net-Zero Decision Support Tools to clarify the decisions required at a sectoral and systems level to build competitiveness and decarbonize specific Canadian regions.
  • Ensure the Transition Accelerator develops strategic relationships with, and solicits ongoing feedback from, key stakeholders including government, industry, Indigenous groups, academia and civil society.
  • Collaborate with regional players and other Accelerator internal teams to bring a strategic focus to the Accelerator’s work by identifying ways to grow shared prosperity and sectoral competitiveness in key regions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Update, expand and republish the Accelerator’s national Net-Zero Decision Support Tool to include additional critical sectors.
  • Undertake and complete a series of Regional Decision Support Tools focused on three to four new Canadian regions.
  • Work internally with the Public Affairs and Knowledge Mobilization teams to co-develop appropriate communications and stakeholder engagement strategies to maximize the impact of the regional decision support tool.
  • Explore possible collaborations on a pathways progress measurement tool.
  • Develop relationships and brief key decision makers on the project as it evolves.
  • Undertake other responsibilities that may arise as the projects progress and using the selected applicant’s expertise.
  • Collaborate with other directors and provide support when needed on the Accelerator’s other activities including electrification, net-zero fuels, building decarbonization and future economy.
  • Manage a small team of direct reports, and manage projects drawing on both Accelerator staff from different parts of the organization and potentially from outside the organization.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess the following experience and personal traits. Please note that The Transition Accelerator values diverse perspectives and will consider relevant life experience alongside professional qualifications when reviewing applications:

  • At least 7 years of proven experience in one or more of: project management, economics, competitiveness or decarbonization research or collaborative, stakeholder-facing roles.
  • A university degree in a pertinent field (public policy, communications, engineering, climate sciences, or other)
  • Demonstrated strong communication skills with fluency in written and spoken English. French competence is a very strong asset.
  • An interest in advancing Canada’s transition to a competitive, net zero society.
  • Ability to maintain effective relationships with a diversity of stakeholders, including government, industry, academia, and Indigenous groups.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated experience managing small teams of direct reports (1-5 or more)
  • Out-of-the box thinker with strong empathy, professionalism, and a drive to make things happen.
  • Responsible, takes initiative, and likes to be held accountable for results.
  • Demonstrated capacity to synthesize and transform knowledge into compelling messages and materials to support collaborative work.
  • Ability to work in a quickly changing, sometimes uncertain environment.
  • Experience and comfort in managing remote processes.
  • Demonstrated extensive experience in using the Microsoft Suite of applications, especially Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.

Additional Information

  • This is a full-time role, with duties that will evolve as the organization grows.
  • This is a fully remote position, but the selected applicant must permanently reside in and work from a Canadian time zone.
