Hiring: Landscape crewmates
Company: Green T Design
Location: various project sites in Calgary, Alberta

Established in 2010, Green T Design stands as Alberta’s pioneering design/build contractor exclusively devoted to ecological landscapes including living architecture – green roofs and living walls. Our expertise encompasses a spectrum of landscape systems and elements ranging from the use of lightweight growing media, base components and low-maintenance plant varieties for building extensive green roofs to the integration of trees, shrubs, perennials, irrigation systems and other features of intensive rooftop gardens and landscapes at grade.

We seek several individuals for our 2025 season, some in a hands-on management role, and others as part of the crew. Full-time positions preferred and some part-time positons are available starting in the beginning of May through to November (depending upon season).

Job Description:
The ideal candidates should have a solid understanding of horticultural practices regarding planting and plant care including pruning, deadheading and integrated pest management. We seek individuals who align with our values and understand the challenges of establishing and stewarding urban gardens both at-grade as well as on rooftops.

Responsibilities/tasks:

  • install systems and materials for green roofs, living walls and other landscapes
  • prepare planting beds and areas for landscaping including lawn removal for perennial planting
  • plant seasonal annuals, perennials, shrubs and trees
  • maintain landscapes by watering, pruning, cultivating and removing dead or damaged leaf tissue
  • identify and mechanically remove weeds from new and established green roofs and planting beds
  • assist in design layout and installation of different green roof types and landscape projects
  • safely use and maintenance of power tools such as mowers, string trimmers, drills, hand tools
  • load/unload trucks with material, equipment and tools

Minimum requirements:

  • >18 years old with grade 12 minimum
  • opne, trustworthy, respectful motivated team player with excellent work ethic
  • physically fit and comfortable with manual labour and physically demanding outdoor work including continuous movement, crouching, kneeling at times and manual lifting
  • holds a valid clas 5drivers license with clean driving record (alternative transportation possible)
  • owns a cell phone (we use WhatApp for communicating)
  • have good organizational skill and ability to multi-task
  • comply with all site and safety policies and procedures

Conditions:

  • ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • must provide own safety footwear
  • able to travel for remote work occasionally

Desired skills/experience:

  • prior horticultural/ landscape education and/or experience
  • ability to work at heights and ascending/descending ladders and scaffolding (for those working on rooftops)
  • good verbal and written communication skills, ability to provide work summaries and record keeping
  • have First Aid training
  • ability to read drawings and prepare planting plans considered an asset

Training:
Fall protection course and green roof training can be provided

Wages and benefits:

  • Commensurate with training/ experience and level of responsibilities
  • Flexible with unpaid time off
