Position: Sorauren Farmers’ Market – Business Development Officer
Type: age 30 & under / summer

Location: Toronto ON (some work can be done remotely, but on-site work is necessary)

Sorauren Farmers' Market is a non-profit organization and a welcoming hub providing wholesome fresh food and community connection since 2008. We provide support to local sustainable farmers and producers and work opportunities for those marginalized from the labour market. Generating relationships and dialogue around gardening, sustainable farming and healthy food and implementing measures to lessen the Market’s environmental impact are core aims.

Position Details:
Hours: 30 hours per week (270 hours total). Primarily daytime work with occasional evening and weekend shifts.
Pay: $20 per hour
Duration: 9-week contract (June – August 2025)
Attire: Casual
Other: A laptop computer is an asset.

Funding Eligibility Criteria:

  • Must be between 20-30 years old
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Some post-secondary education

Position Overview

The Sorauren Farmers’ Market (SFM) is seeking a Business Development Officer to play a key role in advancing our 2025 initiatives, particularly the Cultural Bounty Days Project. This role offers an exciting opportunity to support the growth of the Market through research, fundraising, sponsorship development, marketing, and community engagement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the promotion and implementation of the Cultural Bounty Days Project for 2025.
  • Research and identify funding opportunities, including government and private-sector grants, sponsorships, and fundraising initiatives.
  • Contribute to the development of the Market’s sponsorship package.
  • Support market operations, including Monday setup and teardown, staffing the information desk, and assisting vendors and volunteers.
  • Develop marketing strategies and materials to enhance market visibility.
  • Design and conduct customer experience surveys to gather feedback for future market improvements.
  • Write articles for the Market’s newsletter and blog, and assist with social media marketing.
  • Collaborate with Friends of Sorauren Park (FOSP) as needed to support community initiatives.

Required Qualifications:

  • Strong business development, research, and marketing skills.
  • Excellent written communication skills across multiple platforms.
  • Proficiency in Google Suite, Microsoft Office (Word and Excel), and social media platforms.
  • Strong networking, community-building, and engagement skills.
  • Accountable, collaborative, empathetic, respectful, and kind.
  • Availability on Monday afternoons/evenings and some weekends.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a non-profit environment.
  • Experience with fundraising and sponsorship development.
  • Experience with volunteer recruitment and coordination.
