Position: Buildings Decarbonization Coordinator
Organization: Clean Air Partnership
Location: This position is eligible for a hybrid work model. Attendance at our Toronto office at Richmond & Spadina is mandatory on Mondays and Wednesdays. For exceptional candidates we will consider fully remote.

Headquartered in Toronto, Clean Air Partnership (CAP) was founded in the year 2000. CAP is a charitable environmental organization that works in partnership to implement climate action by reducing greenhouse gases and building healthy communities.
Reporting to the Executive Director, the primary responsibility of the Buildings Decarbonization Coordinator is to support CAP’s municipal building decarbonization efforts by undertaking building decarbonization policy analysis, supporting the development of implementation strategies, and facilitating municipalities in implementing leading building decarbonization practices. This role will focus on supporting municipalities in achieving ambitious climate and energy performance goals for the building sector through knowledge-sharing, capacity-building, and collaborative problem-solving.
Position Overview:
Policy Analysis & Development
- Research to identify leading practices related to building decarbonization strategies, including green standards, building emissions performance standards, energy/emissions labelling, electrification, and community energy.
- Compile government policies, and private sector learnings related to building decarbonization.
- Synthesize technical and policy research into actionable guidance for municipalities or other target audiences, including leading practice reports, case studies, and policy briefs.
Community of Practice Facilitation
- Lead the coordination and facilitation of communities of practice focused on municipal building decarbonization, ensuring meaningful engagement and knowledge exchange
- Organize regular peer-learning sessions, workshops, and webinars that bring together municipal staff and industry experts to discuss challenges, opportunities, and emerging trends
- Develop facilitation materials, agendas, and structured discussion guides to foster collaboration and support implementation efforts
- Track and document key insights from discussions to inform policy development and resource creation
Implementation Support & Capacity Building
- Support municipal discussions on advancing implementation of decarbonization policies
- Develop and deliver training sessions, guidance documents, and other capacity-building resources tailored to target audience stakeholders
- Identify and connect municipalities with relevant experts, tools, and case studies to help advance local building decarbonization initiatives
Stakeholder Engagement & Collaboration
- Build relationships with municipal staff, industry professionals, non-profits, and government agencies to align efforts and share resources
- Represent the organization in external working groups, conferences, and stakeholder meetings related to building decarbonization
- Work closely with internal teams to align building policy work with broader climate action strategies
- Advocate for municipal needs in discussions on regulatory changes, funding mechanisms, and emerging best practices

Qualifications & Skills
- Strong understanding of building decarbonization, energy efficiency, and net-zero building policies
- Experience with policy research, analysis, and development, particularly in a municipal or government context
- Demonstrated ability to facilitate collaborative learning environments and manage communities of practice
- Familiarity with building energy codes, performance standards, and financing mechanisms for deep energy retrofits of value
- Ability to translate complex technical and policy concepts into clear, actionable guidance for municipal audiences
- Experience working with municipalities, climate organizations, or the building sector is an asset
Requirements:
- A post-secondary education in a related discipline or field. (i.e. sustainability, energy management, engineering) or equivalent experience. A minimum of 2-3 years' experience with decarbonization advancement, ideally within building sector
- Strong stakeholder engagement experience, communication skills (oral and written) and ability to translate and share technical information through plain language and one-on-one communication, workshops, promotional material, etc. Experience in project coordination or project management. Excellent organizational, decision-making, and problem-solving skills
- Analytical, project management and time management skills and the ability to manage multiple, complex assignments with tight deadlines. Demonstrated skills working with multi-disciplinary teams
Compensation:
- Full Time
- $65,000 – $75,000
- 15 days paid vacation
- Half day Fridays through the summer
- Complementary time off from December 24th – Jan 2nd
- Health spending account after 6 months
- Full pension offered after 6 months
- CAP employs a graded pay scale with defined annual increases for merit and inflation for all positions.
